Thought I would create a thread dedicated to the SE Asia wet season.

The wet season in Southeast Asia can start as early as May and end as late as November in most areas. However, some areas have their own micro-climates. For example; Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines tend to have their wet season at around the May-November period. However, countries that are located in/close to the S Hemisphere and SE Asia (eg. Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and more) have their wet season starting as early as October and ending as late as May.

Spectacular thunderstorms are almost a daily occurrence in these areas and if there isn't any interesting weather going on in the UK, I would find some webcams in SE Asia and watch the lightning dancing on the webcam. I have actually been monitoring some storms in S Thailand recently and I have been watching some of the webcams (posted in the Thailand thread) located in that area.

Just created some GIFs of some of the storms that were shown on some webcams in south Thailand (webcams linked below). You can see some flashes of lightning on the 3rd one.

Apologies for the quality, had to optimize the GIF to reduce the file size.

those pics really makes me jealous for them having daily thunderstorms just like in florida. I sometimes really do not like living in the UK due to its very boring weather

Just found a cruise ship cam located off the coast of Malaysia. Looked like it had some lively storms somewhere inland today

We lived in Singapore for three years in the late 1950s. We were told that the monsoon season proper started there on about 22nd October and lasted until Christmas Day. The start in 1958 was indeed towards the end of October and in 1959, Christmas Day was the first totally dry day in a while, with our post- Christmas lunch visit to the swimming pool uninterrupted by the expected monsoon storm, thank goodness. All of the heaviest day's rainfall in modern Singapore history have been in November and December, and my recollections are of a Christmas party at school in 1959 having to be abandoned p.d.q. as the rain threatened to overwhelm the classrooms and of a nearby tree being blown to pieces by lightning as we hurried from the school bus to our home! Storms are not of course confined to the main monsoon season, and my return visits to Singapore in April 1994 and April 2002 were punctuated by sudden heavy showers, which brought back memories for my mum, sister and I.

Thousands of members of the Scouting movement are packing and setting off to South Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. There has been torrential rain, what is the SaeManGeum forecast?

Perhaps it was torrential rain, but now the British contingent at the World Scout Jamboree in S Korea have been forced to evacuate to hotels because of extremely high temperatures leading to sickness, heat stroke and exhaustion. So sad after all the planning and fund- raising which has gone into making this the trip of a lifetime for all the young people at the Jamboree, and is now the trip of a lifetime for all the wrong reasons!  I wish them all well.
