My lots last full day in Obergurgl today so they got together a bit more as all levels of skiing ability were there. They had some sunshine and with lower winds had a great day on fresh powder.
In the first pic the snow plougher at the top is my niece's fiancee who is on his first ski holiday. She is standing below giving instructions or orders. The guy on the snowboard is one of my nephews who is a good skier but tried snowboarding for the first time this holiday and seems to have taken to it. The lady sitting down is my sis-in-law but not sure what she is doing there?

Snowfall continues to pile high. Temperatures much colder today but the wind has dropped a bit.

Snowed heavily overnight at Obergurgl too. Roads blocked with drifts so bus couldn't get up to the village and they will miss their flights home. Sunny now so they have been told that they will get taken to the airport this evening  but do not know how they will get home yet. First pic is the road.

edit. Unfortunately though they cannot get an extra days skiing as all lifts closed due to avalanche risk and high winds on the mountains.

And they have now been told it will be tomorrow morning before they get picked up. Real shame about the lifts.

A couple of avalanches yesterday on what do not appear to be particularly steep slopes near the village. Presumably why the runs were closed.

Well just back from a long weekend at Sauze d'Oulx and whilst not having the dumping of snow I had there 13 years ago, the pistes were still more than passable, if not a little busy. However, judging from what I'm reading above, it looks like they are really missing out this year on some proper snowfall as seen elsewhere in the Alps. Sauze could certainly do with another dumping, but it seems sunny, yet very cold, in the forecast.

Funnily enough, we are out there the day you come back. Looks like the last snowfall was 19th Jan, so will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed the conditions are good!

Not at the moment WW. Looking very dry in the French Alps for the next 10 days. Here's the GFS take on precipitation accumulation over the next 10 days to the 18th Feb. I've marked the chart and unfortunately your resort is in the circle somewhere.

1373414777_GFSaccumprecipto18Feb23.thumb.GIF.43b4ee2854726de97e2ce29c8b08439f.GIF

But the good news is there's lots of snow in the resort and with high pressure dominating and very low overnight temps, and with snow making available if required here and there, I'm sure the piste teams will keep conditions great for skiing. And by the time the 18th arrives, who knows, there could be fresh snowfall in the forecast for your week.
This site is good to check in-resort conditions:

Just over halfway through our visit to Obertauern and as usual we are having an excellent time. It’s been very warm this week and the slopes have been softening quickly in the strong sunshine., particularly today. The tactic has been to get up early to get the best conditions, especially as it is carnival week and is very busy.

Should be a bit colder the next couple of days which will help with the conditions and then much colder next week, but i will be back in the UK then.

After over 30 snowless days in the French Alps the next 10 days look set to give a real dumping of snow with GFS suggesting up to 157mm (water equivalent!) by end of T120 (13th March). And by T240 (18th March) up to 214mm. The only hiccup will be the freezing level which is likely to be as as high as 2,000m at times during week 1, although current forecasts suggest colder during week 2 with snow down to very low levels. 🤞
I'm lucky enough to be travelling to Val Cenis (1,450m) for a week's skiing on Mar 17th. Can't wait. 🙂

In Val Cenis, French Alps, and it really is Spring skiing here. Three days in a row now with wall-to-wall sunshine and temps reaching 15C in the village at 1,450m. Great skiing above 2,000m but lower down it's like skiing thru a slush puppy by the afternoon. Surprised at how quiet it is in the resort.

Lovely conditions up the top: Could contain: Nature, Outdoors, Scenery, Hotel, Resort, Shelter, Waterfront, Piste, Chair, Desk

But struggling lower down:    Could contain: Nature, Outdoors, Piste, Snow, Sport, Person

Similar in Austria Malcolm. Lovely ski-ing on top runs. Mushy back in to the village. Very quiet in resorts. Some offering very low day lift prices to entice the locals. Great sat in the sunshine though having a beer and a goulash suppe. Next week is jazz week in the sunshine in these parts with a free lift pass for over 60s ! So hopefully have some of that .

One of the best snowfalls of the season occurred during the past 24 hours. The passage of the kalt front deposited a fresh top up of 40cm of much needed powdery snow. Current temp at dusk now -10c , so its going to be a cold night. Tomorrow is expected to be a dream day on the slop[es under clear sunny skies a and jazz festival in full flow.

A dream day to today in the wonderful Ski Amade region of Salzburgerland. Powder trails just like in North America ! Without doubt  this area offers some of the best vacation ski-ing the world.

Morning all. Snowing like crazy at the moment.  Deep powder above 1500m with a 60 cm fresh expected today. Many resorts closed for business last Sunday but some now deciding to open until 16th April. Nearby high resort of Obertauern now confident of keeping the lifts going right to the end of the month. Such is the expert preparations in maintaining pistes these days a long season is  becoming the norm at higher altitudes due to the increased snow mass associated with higher winter temps ! One mans loss is one mans gain, so it seems.

Still it snows.  Looks like being one of the heaviest April snowfalls in many a year. The resort now stays open for another week !
