Pictures of the piste teams dealing with the heavy snowfall in the region. There is more to come soon.

Fantastic news. We have lift off and been given the green light to open fully on 17th December , ski-ing, gastronomy and hotelery. Whats more we have fantastic snow conditions that will last well over the Christmas Period. All Covid safety will be applied in resort, so get yourselves booking a Austria Ski trip soon.

A break in the clouds leads the way to one of my favourite blue runs to The Adlerhorst pub and restaurant. Currently closed but due to open next Friday.

Hi John , looks like being very mild for Scotland for much of next week. Hope things turn much colder over Christmas and New Year and some proper snow eventually arrives and hangs around into the winter.

Yes, Hotspur, great snow , in fact possibly too much now. Snowing again. I now switch off the news, The Austrian channels are I think even worse with the " fear reporting " than the British Media  and thats saying something. All the time looking for a blame game rather than just reporting the facts. Anyway , come the 17th , I am off to the pub to celebrate with a few scoops the opening of hospitality. Ski-ing is not the same without a bit of Apre ! There maybe not too much dancing on the tables but to taste that beer will be so joyful.

Macron goes Nuclear and stops Brits from going on a Christmas Ski-ing holiday . Just hope folk do not forget his actions when thinking about visiting again.

The local Absolut Park open today fully for riders. Just great to watch the youngsters fly thro the air on the Shuttleberg.

Yep, I should be travelling to Le Grand Bornand in the French Alps today (Sat 18th). Instead, my skiing trip a victim of silly politicians. So I'm sat in Suffolk looking out on a grey, drizzly UK December's day.

Grand Bornand yesterday: 1521262949_GrandBornand17Dec21.thumb.jpg.bf6e20e0c29a42db0208f5b7c0e56778.jpg

I'm told by my friend who lives in the French resort of Val Cenis that many French nationals who operate ski related businesses are furious with Macron for blocking the Brits. This article in the Daily Mail:

French ski resorts face 'economic disaster' after Macron banned UK tourists over Omicron fears
Christophe Lavaut, director of resorts in Val d'Isere, said Britons make up 42 per cent of customers and an even larger share of profits as they tend to spend lots

Source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10321349/French-ski-resorts-face-economic-disaster-Macron-banned-UK-tourists.html

I've already told my skiing buddies that I will be avoiding France next year. It's Austria or Germany for me - and anyway, they do apres ski MUCH better!

So sorry to hear that Malcolm. Think Macron playing politics against all things Anglo Saxon. He will regret his treatment towards you Brits. Already the hoteliers having a moan with his knee jerk reaction. Britons spend a lot of Euros in France. As you say , plenty of other options to look at. Went to Norway once and super like us Brits. Austrian resorts still I think offer the best welcome well prepared good all round ski-ing resorts and value for money. Macron may come to regret his treatment of you skiers back in the old country.

This is on my bucket list to complete. 12 peaks in one day ! Not sure whether my ageing legs will be able to cope but will give it my best shot later in the season when the days get a bit longer and warmer. That is the plan for when my old UK ski mates make a visit, hopefully, first week in March. Currently, plenty of snow but a bit warm . Tighter travel restrictions being imposed at the moment for UK visitors but will be allowed in with a booster certificate and 48 hour pre arrival PCR test clearance. All a bit messy but may be things will improve as the season progresses. Local tourist Office report a switch of booking to Austria at the expense of France ! Good I say.

We were supposed to go to Austria in December, but swapped to Tignes from 11th until 18th where we enjoyed perfect conditions but came home with covid for Christmas. However we feel lucky to have skied as so many people will have missed out, and all the testing was a worry, hard work and an extra expense, especially for families. It looks like conditions are not so good now without much new snow and very high temps.

The gang out preparing the course for this weekends World Cup downhill. Ideal conditions forecast for a fast race. Unfortunately the present draconian Covid rules will not allow any one to watch the spectacle. Think it will be shown on Eurosports or Ski Sunday. The course will remain open for the rest of the season for anyone to have a go. In my case it will be a slow measured descent !

Ski Sunday comes from Wengen this Sunday, the Lauberhorn, or watch it live on Euro sports, that after you pay the fee. Last year I think it was about £9 for the month, not bad really as January has both the Lauberhorn and the Hannenkam from Kitzbuhel

The local race from Zauchensee will be shown on ORF tv and possibly viewed on Eurosport more widely but not sure about Ski Sunday. No atmosphere without the fans.

A vodeo of the winner in the Super-G just held in Wengen, after two previous attempts in other resorts saw it cancelled due to bad weather.

Note the presence of spectators

Swiss Marco Odermatt secured victory in Wengen after roaring to victory in the men's Super G.

This time still shot with the Eiger as background to the overfly, they do it each day, of the Swiss Patrouille, led by the passenger jet. Saw it live once, incredible to see them go between the major peaks in the area

Saw a practice day, went up on a chairlift with a Bell brother, but then after standing freezing on the day,  they called the actual race off. Can't remember why as it was 20 odd years ago.  What a backdrop though.

I once heard that if you stood up out of crouch at the first bend it would flip you on your back. The are certainly going some as I stood on that bend for a practice session. Always seem to get to practice,  done a few but never seen an actual race.

I have never seen so many people above the Lauberhorn start hut, some must be nearly 1 mile from the Huchkoff jump which is what I suppose most are there for.
