I said it a couple of days ago I think, this has read warning written all over it. I love extreme weather, as a weather enthusiast, but not something like this. Lives will be lost and people in extreme hardship (by our current standards) if it does come through as the models currently show.

Latest forecast on BBC News had 80-90 mph across most of the top half of Ireland,  possibly more in exposed areas.

Gulp.

mountain shadow Aye showing the same for me at around 9am, they will need to think about closing schools given the risks of driving in the morning rush hour.

The Met Office weather warnings are based a lot around probability, so with cross model agreement on 80 to 90 mph gusts at rush hour on Friday, I would expect Orange today and perhaps Red at lunchtime tomorrow.

They update around midday I believe.

In terms of schools closing, that's a Stormont decision so who knows!

It will be 100% a red warning and all schools closed. Never in doubt

I see red warnings are out for Western Irish counties already.  Not surprised, latest GFS has 100mph+ slamming into Galway Bay. High tide early morning too.

This is a very dangerous storm.

As it moves East, still gusts of 90mph widespread inland.

Like I said earlier, if any Friday outdoor activities can be put off then put them off. I’d imagine there will all manners of debris flying about and plenty of travel disruption.

Very unusual to have red warning more than 36 hours in advance if the event. Will deffo be nationwide red

DavyDee Probably being pedantic, but surely that tick should be up one space as it's very likely to occur now.

Doing a quick look around various locations and the highest gust forecast I could find was Downpatrick at 9am at 90mph. Downpatrick is virtually sea level, so bound to coastal areas getting 100mph.

Edit. New record. Ardglass 93mph.

DavyDee suppose they want to be sure of track, could see more localised red warnings,

mountain shadow one difficultly with the Matrix display (which we have seen with the yellows this week) perhaps is can mean High likelihood of Medium impacts in this region and possibility of High impacts.

Met Eireann just go with the values (and part impacts)
