Spain Weather

Recommended Posts

Not easy to predict where the showers will be in the Med so please don't take this for granted! The weather is unfamiliar compared to our simple low-pressures and fronts.

So far the moist plume has started affecting the area and yesterday was 24°C and cloudy with less than 1 hour sunshine and two-thirds of an inch of rain but the worst conditions were to the northwest where Barcelona recorded nearly 4 inches of rain in 24 hours, 3.5 inches of that between noon and 6pm, with flooding across the Catalunya region.

Today Majorca recorded some of the highest Spanish temperatures over 28°C earlier before showers are increasingly affecting the Balearics, more so than the models predicted. This should continue into tomorrow with some big storms affecting the area.

After this, the showers should be fewer and lighter, more likely over the mountains, and while temperatures should still reach into the mid to high 20s, particularly with more sunshine. as low level winds switch from the south to the northeast it should be slightly cooler and feel increasingly less humid.

Into the weekend and the start of next week, the weather looks mainly fair, but with deep low pressure maybe affecting the UK and northwest Europe, there could be some increased high cloud at least and possibly increased shower risk from Sunday onwards.

This guesswork is looking at the models on Meteociel but a search for "tiempo espana" gives lots of links for Spanish weather. Some of these are saying mostly fine, some mostly showers  :)

Have a good one!

Here's the link to El Tiempo for Palma Mallorca in case you haven't got it - http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/prediccion/municipios/palma-id07040

Looks like a nice week once a few storms are out of the way on Tuesday. You'll likely have some nice CuNb formations to look down on and enjoy en route over the south of France into Spain, and you'll miss our first autumn wind and rain event at the end of this week - lucky you!

Spare a thought for the poor folks in Herault who are again being battered by storms. Up to 350mm of rain progged for some areas in the 36 hours up until the end of tomorrow and there's a red weather warning in place...

As noted in the Portugal thread yesterday was very warm across south west Iberia particularly for coastal areas with favourable offshore winds.

Faro on the Algarve was 35.6°C more than two degrees above official October records since 1970.

At Malaga airport the temperature reached 36.3°C according to Aemet and 36.4°C from synop data (on ogimet) beating the record of 36.0°C from 11/10/1952 (records since 1942).

Marbella was the hot spot reaching 37.1°C

This comes a day after heat hit the east coast with Valencia and Valencia airport recording 35.8 and 35.7°C beating their previous October highs of 34.6 and 34.5°C - the latter set just last year.

Looks to be a bit of uncertainty at the moment, a large area of low pressure is moving to the northwest of the UK over the next few days bringing us very mild air at first but with a cold front crossing over through Friday night and early part of Saturday. The southern part of this front with another cold front close behind should cross Spain through Sunday into Monday which will give some showers. But then many model runs are predicting that they will trigger the formation of a cut-off low over Spain or western Med which could give more general widespread rain and cool temperatures Tuesday into Wednesday. Some models are showing less effect of this and more influence from the Azores high reaching in from the west, hopefully it tends towards this.

Gracia interitus. Yes, Fingers crossed, i've seen some of the models and it does look like tuesday could be a bit of wash out but Sun/Mon and Weds don't look too bad at that moment , as we're only going for 4 days i would be happy with that

Off to Fuerteventura, the Canaries, on Saturday.

I've been watching the models and various weather websites for over a week now.

Looks warm and settled until middle of next week; then increasing risk of showers, but still warm at 23/24c.

Fingers crossed.

Flew back from Malaga last Sunday just as cold weather was starting to kick in, there was quite a bit of snow then across northern areas, a lot more than when I flew across those parts just after Christmas.

Its been a fairly dry winter so far especially across south of Spain so they could do with this weather they've got at present.

Some notable thunderstorms across southern Spain today. Almeria, Malaga and Granada have all had thunder and lightning with heavy rain by the looks of it. Exciting stuff, much more so than here anyway.

Hi, I've been following the hot weather discussion for Spain on this forum thread. My Spanish is a bit basic but Google fills in the gaps. :)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
