Cloudy with sea fog in the morning but sunny afternoon with a maximum of 21c.Very humid in the morning.

Took most of hay bales in today that werer baled yesterday as the hay is crisp ad crunchy with a very low moisture content  so should not do anything silly

Just posted in summer chat thread NL, spoke to a good friend / local farmer tonight, wheat here is at 4 ton per acre, he seemed happy at that yield! And straight to shed, no drying!

Going to try some  spring barley today if sea fog clears.Lower down I am hearing of some record breaking low moisture contents. However grain is hot so will need to be cooled for long term storage. Also the drier it is below 15% moisture there is a weight loss so effectively losing yield .  Less tonnes of water on lorry. On flip side cereals are a sunshine crop no shortage of that this year so bushel weights or density should be good if received just enough rain.Easy to overload a lorry if thats the case. So although  a crop may look physically thin it may weigh well  except areas on sandy hills wich turned white in July and died off. So real swings and roundabouts . High levels of P.H.T. this year. Price of grain has fallen about £100/tonne since spring as Governments and futures traders  round the world conspire to bring prices down.Any sold  forward at high prices earlier will be subject to intense scrutiny in order to reduce that price so can see some good arguements developing.

Harvest about ten days earlier than normal up here.

We are at a barbecue in StAndrews tomorrow. Have advised relatives coming across from Bearsden and Glasgow that it may be a tad cooler than they anticipate. Hopefully the dreaded haar stays offshore!

Yes fingers crossed. Yesterday’s max at Leuchars was 18.2c some 11c lower than Thursday. Skies starting to brighten here after a grey start, 15c.

Morning.

Think it will burn back fully today as it appears to have already started to in St. Andrews.

Anstruther and Aberdour clearing too.  Looks as if I will have to wait a wee bit longer.

Not sure what this ‘cloud’ thing is you lot speak of.

I only recognise a burning yellow ball of destruction which has the laser beam turned up to maximum.

Currently 26.4c, feeling hot.

Cleared for a couple of hours here but cloud filled back in, breezy and cool feeling at 18c. Not too bothered as we’ve had a great run of sunshine here in NE Fife.

Currently 30.1c, probably going to top out around the same level as yesterday.

Far too hot and tomorrow doesn’t look much better. Best August for summer weather in years

I bet the tearoom/eatery by the beach at Ardrossan is doing a roaring trade. In lollies! And, as a bonus the Isle of Arran should be as clear as clear can be!😁

Another perfect day - even a late breakfast outside an Aberdeen beachfront cafe was haar free with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze (although the ships just offshore were disappearing in and out of the murk).

At home, stiflingly hot in the sun with barely even a breath of wind up here in the forest. The contractor is bringing the drilling rig up tomorrow ready to start on monday so running water hopefully isn't far away...

Got cutting at 2.00pm after haar burnt off then plenty of warm sunshine.   Cut 3 fields by the time it rolled in again at 7.30pm.  Very early for us one field affected worse by dry conditions so straw a bit short but a lovely golden colour.20220813_173534.thumb.jpg.895847c17d7a3a3d452b25367b1b0831.jpg

The cracking weather continues.

Haar rolled in at teatime yesterday and departed around 9am today.

Thereafter pretty much unbroken sunshine, bar some patchy high level cloud, and light winds.

A very impressive high of 28c, and a lovely sunset to round things off.

Thats us had our nice week. Now for the rainy week.

Was a hot one in Glasgow today so about time for a wee cool down. That might be it for the summer unless we get a wee pleasant spell end of August/start of Sept.

Last post I can see on here was on 5th Aug. Hopefully everything is OK as he's been in hospital for a while and a bit up and down.

I'm thinking it might be a bit too far east to see much of any thunder activity today but I can but hope. Might be nice to have some cooler weather, and the garden could certainly do with some rain. High yesterday of 26.7C, currently 16.8C and rising rapidly.
