Saturday 11 Feb - Monday 20 Feb

The coming weekend is expected to be mostly dry and largely cloudy, albeit with some rain at times in the far north and northwest. For the rest of the period, settled conditions overall are expected for most, bringing dry weather with sunny spells. There is a risk of overnight fog in many parts of the country, particularly in the south. Changeable weather conditions are more likely in the far north, with showers and longer spells of rain, as well as periods of stronger winds in the northwest. Temperatures overall will be mild in the north, particularly in the northwest, but near average elsewhere, with a low chance of colder conditions and frost in the south.

Tuesday 21 Feb - Tuesday 7 Mar

During the period, generally settled weather conditions are expected across the UK. Frontal systems bringing rain and strong winds are expected in the northwest, perhaps spreading further into the southeast at times, although much of the south and southeast may stay largely dry. Temperatures overall will be above normal, with a small but increasing chance of colder conditions as we move through the period.

Last sentence of the extended outlook is interesting.

"Temperatures overall will be above normal, with a small but increasing chance of colder conditions as we move through the period."

First hints of the effects of a possible SSW perhaps?

Let's see if it sticks with this, or takes it away quickly, we've seen a number of cases when there has been deletion of wording on a daily basis, last week there was the odd reference to possible light snow in central parts I think for tomorrow or was it Wednesday - that was a bizarre statement, it was gone the next day.. indeed it was liast Thursday reference to a band of light snow - very small chance overnight tonight - alas it is going to be bone dry, how wrong!

Hopefully they'll remove the words a small but and replace them with an and add significantly in front of colder.

Sunday 12 Feb - Tuesday 21 Feb

Sunday and Monday will be mostly dry with variable and at times large amounts of cloud, with any fog patches clearing through the morning. Parts of the north and northwest of the UK will remain rather damp at times, with occasional light rain or drizzle. Over the following few days, probably a gradual transition to more generally changeable conditions, meaning a greater chance of some rain at times in the south and east compared to earlier in February. The north and northwest will likely be most unsettled, with often strong winds accompanying periods of rain, which will be heavy at times. Temperatures overall will be relatively mild, with any frost mostly likely across southern areas earlier in the period.

Wednesday 22 Feb - Wednesday 8 Mar

Generally changeable weather conditions with near or above average temperatures across the UK as a whole until late February. Bands of rain and strong winds are expected, especially in the northwest, with a risk of some wintry showers in the intervening colder brighter interludes between these frontal systems. Some of these frontal systems perhaps spreading further to the southeast, although much of the south and southeast will likely be relatively drier. Confidence in the forecast around the turn of the month becomes much lower, and whilst the more likely scenario is one of a continuation of similar conditions experienced through the latter half of February, there is a low probability of some much colder weather developing.

It's alright, I think they just got confused and put low instead of high in that last sentence 🤣

Monday 13 Feb - Wednesday 22 Feb

Monday is expected to be a largely dry day. Some patchy fog and frost initially, but this clearing to broken cloud, allowing sunny spells to develop across much of the UK. However, some patchy rain likely along coasts and hills in the northwest. Into mid-week, the south and southeast are likely to remain dry, but the far north and west probably seeing rain at times, which may extend a little further south and east with time. Further into the period, a transition away from higher pressure in the south allows for more unsettled conditions to become widespread across the UK. Temperatures generally mild, although potentially cold in the south overnight, especially earlier in the period.

Glimmer of hope for more northern regions. Not so much for the South.

To be fair, that's quite strong language by the normal standards of these updates. Especially this far out. I sense a cold March is coming. As long as it's followed by a warm April and May, fine

Tuesday 14 Feb - Thursday 23 Feb

Tuesday will likely be dry for most across the UK, with a chance of sunshine particularly in the northwest. Any early mist and fog patches quickly clearing. The odd spot of light rain is possible, mostly across Northern Ireland. The settled weather remaining for many into the end of the week, with some bands of cloud and rain possibly progressing into the north and northwest at times. Also, strong winds likely in the north and west, with coastal gales possible here. Further into the period a transition away from high pressure in the south allows for more unsettled conditions to become widespread across the UK at times. Temperatures generally mild or rather mild, although with a chance of cold nights in the south, especially earlier in the period.

A more encouraging update I would say with talk of high pressure developing to the north of the UK and this

"Temperatures expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a possibility, bringing widespread wintry conditions.

Wednesday 15 Feb - Friday 24 Feb

Dry conditions are likely for much of the UK on Wednesday, with sunny spells and variable cloud coverage. Some showery outbreaks are possible for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, but any rain is likely to decay fairly quickly. Into the weekend, much of central, southern and eastern England and Wales are likely to remain dry, while some frontal systems could progress from the north and west. Towards the end of the period, changeable conditions are likely to persist, bringing periods of cloud, rain, and strong winds, alongside some more settled conditions. In the north, showers could turn wintry for a time. The strongest winds are expected in the north and west. Temperatures generally rather mild, but some local frost possible under clear skies, especially in eastern parts.

Saturday 25 Feb - Saturday 11 Mar

The end of February is likely to see a continuation of changeable conditions, with the wettest and windiest conditions most probable across the northwest. The south and east could see some shorter spells of wet weather, although some more settled conditions remain possible. Into March, high pressure is expected to develop to the north of the UK, with low pressure dominating over the south and southwest. This could introduce a north-south split, with drier conditions across the north whilst the south could see some wetter conditions. Temperatures expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a possibility, bringing widespread wintry conditions.

Yes significant, high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south and south west, equals an airstream from between north and east, which in early March can be every bit as cold as at any time of the year.

Thursday 16 Feb - Saturday 25 Feb

Periods of rainfall are likely to affect parts of the UK for a time on Thursday, with northern areas seeing showers during the afternoon, perhaps merging to a longer spell of rain, while some southern parts could see wet weather approaching from the west as the day proceeds. For much of the rest of the period, a low pressure system located to the northwest could bring widespread frontal activity, with the north and northwest expected to see the most unsettled conditions with spells of rain and stronger winds. The south and east are likely to see drier conditions, but more unsettled periods remain possible, bringing some wetter weather. Temperatures overall rather mild, but overnight frost could develop, especially in the south and east.

Temperatures expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a small possibility, bringing widespread wintry conditions.
