"Mid-March is a puzzle with a couple of pieces still to fall into place; but as the discussion below concludes, there is a chance of a much colder picture revealing itself."

Thursday 23 Feb - Saturday 4 Mar

Clear spells are expected on Thursday, with some isolated wintry showers remaining possible with any snow mainly restricted to hills. These showers are likely to dissipate later, with increasing cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading from the northwest. Strong winds possible in the north. Rather cold at first with icy patches in places, and remaining locally rather cold in the south. Through the rest of the period, conditions are expected to remain largely settled, however some rain and showers are possible at times for many areas, with nocturnal fog or mist developing in places. There is a chance of some more changeable conditions across the far north and northwest. Some stronger winds could develop in the east and south for a time. Temperatures generally near normal, although locally cold overnight.

Sunday 5 Mar - Sunday 19 Mar

High pressure is expected to dominate at the start of the period, with any more unsettled weather most likely across the far north and northwest. However, low pressure could develop to the south of the UK by the middle of the month, bringing more widespread changeable conditions. Temperatures expected to be generally around average to begin, with the risk of colder nights throughout the period. There is an increasing chance of some colder than average conditions developing as the month progresses, although confidence remains low.

Friday 24 Feb - Sunday 5 Mar

Friday is likely to be rather settled, with sunny spells to start, followed by cloudy conditions through much of the day, resulting in some light drizzle in places. Sunny spells and showers are possible in the north, where winds are likely to turn stronger through the day. A frosty start is expected, especially across the south and east, but temperatures will generally be around average elsewhere. Through the rest of the period, settled conditions are likely to continue, however some light rain and showers are still possible at times, with nocturnal fog or mist developing in places. Some stronger winds could develop in the east and south, making it feel colder here, though temperatures overall, will be generally near or slightly below average, although locally cold overnight.

Monday 6 Mar - Monday 20 Mar

High pressure is expected to dominate at the start of the period, with any more unsettled weather most likely across the far north and northwest. However, low pressure could develop to the south of the UK by the middle of the month, bringing more widespread changeable conditions. Gone are the days when 'turning colder with strengthening easterly winds' meant 1C with snow showers... These days, it's 9C with sunny spells! 😁

Saturday 25 Feb - Monday 6 Mar

Saturday will be generally dry with sunny spells with isolated wintry showers in the north and east, mainly along coasts. Turning cloudier with a few spots of rain in the northwest later. Winds fresh to strong in the east and far south with a risk of North Sea coastal gales at first. Light to moderate elsewhere. Widely cold at first with frost in many areas and icy stretches in places, daytime maxima rather cold. Later, mostly fair weather with variable cloud and some clear and sunny spells with a few overnight fog patches possible. Perhaps a few wintry showers, mainly on eastern coasts. Winds generally light, locally fresh to strong in the south, especially along the coast. Feeling rather cold generally, with some overnight frost under clear spells.

Tuesday 7 Mar - Tuesday 21 Mar

"Colder than average" for mid-March down here means 7c instead of 10c; just saying😉

There are references to cold in the forecast, and colder than average could mean substantially below, who knows. Indeed there is no reference to mild or abaove average at all, I guess given the forecast is to mid March, colder than average may just mean mid single digit maxima, no deep freeze, but certainly will increase risk of wintry weather at times, and possibly something substantive.

Sunday 26 Feb - Tuesday 7 Mar

Widely settled with plenty of sunshine, cloudiest in the west but cloud cover gradually increasing through the weekend. Patchy overnight fog in periods of clear skies possible. Some slight showers possible across north and eastern coastal districts. Light and variable winds, stronger across some peripheral areas, especially the south coast. Temperatures by day around average to mild in north, but chillier where clear skies persist overnight. Rather cold in the south, especially in the breeze. Later, most places rather cloudy, but dry. A low pressure will produce an increased risk of showers in the south. The likelihood of wintery showers is very low, but most possible for the far south. Temperatures by day likely to be around average, by night likely a little below overall although frosts limited by cloud.

Wednesday 8 Mar - Wednesday 22 Mar

In this period, spells of rain or snow, are more likely than earlier in the month, with a low chance that some wintry episodes could be disruptive, though northwestern areas most likely to see the driest conditions. Winds could often be from a northerly or easterly direction, and temperatures are more likely to be below-average than above-average overall, but later in the month, colder air will be fighting against a strengthening sun.

Monday 27 Feb - Wednesday 8 Mar

On Monday, a mostly dry day although northern and eastern areas may see the occasional light rain. Breezy conditions likely across the south. Continuing through the week, high pressure is expected to dominate creating rather cloudy but dry conditions for most. For the rest of the period, a continuation of similar settled conditions is likely. Light winds in the north, increasing towards the south, with a risk of gales at exposed coasts. Towards the end of the period, there is an increasing likelihood of colder conditions, with a chance of snow showers in many eastern and northern areas. Temperatures to start likely around average, most likely becoming below average towards the end of the period.

Thursday 9 Mar - Thursday 23 Mar

In this period, spells of rain or snow, are more likely than earlier in the month, with a low chance that some wintry episodes could be disruptive, though northwestern areas most likely to see the driest conditions. Good update 27th Feb to 8th March

"Towards the end of the period, there is an increasing likelihood of colder conditions, with a chance of snow showers in many eastern and northern areas. Temperatures to start likely around average, most likely becoming below average towards the end of the period."

The later update looks the same as yesterday.

Tuesday 28 Feb - Thursday 9 Mar

On Tuesday, a mostly settled day across the country. Brisk winds expected in southern areas, with the risk of a few wintry showers. Northern areas will see more mild conditions. Through the rest of the week, high pressure will dominate across the UK, leading to dry conditions for most but rather cloudy at times. Showers are possible in southern and eastern areas, with a small chance of a few wintry showers in southern areas. For the rest of the period, high pressure is likely to migrate northwards, increasing the likelihood of colder, northerly winds across the UK, increasing the chance of snow showers for many eastern and northern areas. Temperatures to start below average in southern areas but increasing to around average through the period.

Friday 10 Mar - Friday 24 Mar

In this period, spells of rain or snow, are more likely than earlier in the month, with a low chance that some wintry episodes could be disruptive, though northwestern areas most likely to see the driest conditions. Winds could often be from a northerly or easterly direction, and temperatures are more likely to be below-average than above-average overall, but later in the month, colder air will be fighting against a strengthening sun.

Wednesday 1 Mar - Friday 10 Mar

High pressure will dominate through early March despite edging northwestwards, bringing dry and rather cloudy conditions for most, with some (most likely rain) showers likely for some eastern and southern areas. There is also potential for a spell of more unsettled weather in the far north. Towards the end of the period, a trend towards more unsettled weather is likely. With more direct northerly winds increasing in likelihood, there is an increasing chance of colder conditions and snow showers for northern and eastern areas, and a low chance of more organised rain or snow spreading south across the country. West, and northwestern areas likely to stay more settled for longest. Temperatures generally on the colder side of average overall, with some overnight frost likely.

Saturday 11 Mar - Saturday 25 Mar

Spells of rain and snow are much more likely at first compared with the start of the month, with a low chance that some of these could be locally rather disruptive, with snow and/or strong northerly winds. However, conditions overall are likely to be more mixed, not everywhere will see snow. Northwestern areas are likely to stay driest throughout. Temperatures are likely to be below average at first, and may remain so for much of the period although will slowly increase overall by virtue of the changing seasons reducing the chance of snow accordingly. Shorter, much colder snaps remain possible, and more likely than average.
