Thursday 23 Mar - Saturday 1 Apr

On Thursday, rain clearing the far northeast, elsewhere sunny spells and blustery showers, heavy at times. These showers may increasingly fall as snow in the far north. Low pressure is expected to dominate for the rest of the week, bringing showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times. Highest precipitation totals likely in the west, with comparatively drier conditions in the east. Windy at times, with a risk of coastal gales. Throughout the rest of the period unsettled conditions are most likely to continue, with periods of strong wind and rain, interspersed with shorter, drier spells. Temperatures likely close to average in the south but with a chance of becoming rather cold in the north.

Sunday 2 Apr - Sunday 16 Apr

To start the period, a continuation of unsettled conditions is the most likely. Moving further into April, a chance of more settled weather is most likely, with drier conditions more probable. There is a chance that temperatures may trend cooler than average through this period.

Friday 24 Mar - Sunday 2 Apr

Friday is likely to be unsettled with showers for all, these perhaps heavy and thundery at times. Showers in the north potentially turning wintry over high ground. A lower risk of organised rain with strong winds at first in the southeast. Staying unsettled into the weekend, colder conditions are likely to move in from the north, possibly bringing an overnight frost risk. The best of any dry weather most likely in the east. Later, the weather is likely to remain unsettled, with periods of strong winds and rain, interspersed with shorter drier spells. Perhaps a trend for the wettest weather to be in the south. Temperatures likely close to average in the south, but rather cold in the north, with a risk of wintry conditions here.

Monday 3 Apr - Monday 17 Apr

To start the period, a continuation of unsettled conditions is the most likely. Moving further into April, a chance of more settled weather is predicted, with drier conditions more probable. Any wetter conditions more likely in the far south. There is a chance that temperatures may trend cooler than average through this period.

Saturday 25 Mar - Monday 3 Apr

Saturday is likely to be unsettled with showers for many, these perhaps turning wintry, especially over high ground in the north, but becoming drier from the west through the day. Strong winds in the south and east at first, tending to ease with time. Sunday will likely bring further rain and perhaps windy conditions to the south, whilst northern areas see brighter skies and wintry showers. After a mostly dry start to next week with some frost, further periods of strong winds and rain are expected with perhaps a trend for the wettest weather to be in the south. Temperatures likely close to average in the south, but rather cold in the north, with a risk of wintry conditions here.

Tuesday 4 Apr - Tuesday 18 Apr

To start the period, a continuation of unsettled conditions is the most likely. Moving further into April, a chance of more settled weather is predicted, with drier conditions more probable. Any wetter conditions are more likely in the far south. There is a chance that temperatures may trend cooler than average through this period.

Sunday 26 Mar - Tuesday 4 Apr

On Sunday, any early rain in the southeast soon clearing. Many areas then dry with variable cloud. Showers are likely for some eastern areas, as well as the far north where they will increasingly fall as snow to low levels. Winds moderate, though easing in the southwest. Temperatures near normal to rather cold in the north. Later, remaining unsettled, at least at first, but with wettest conditions likely affecting northern areas through the end of March. Southern and eastern areas are likely to be drier, but even here, some showers or spells of rain are likely. Some strong winds are likely, with a low risk of gales, mainly for western areas. Temperatures generally above normal, though with colder conditions possible in the far north and northeast at first.

Wednesday 5 Apr - Wednesday 19 Apr

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April. Still some wetter weather at times, with occasional showers, which could be heavy or thundery. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight. The chances of strong winds are probably lower than normal, and whilst temperatures are likely to generally be near to slightly above normal, cooler spells remain possible.

It most certainly has but the forecasts are coming into line with normal service now, too!

As I said yesterday in the March CET thread, any month that looks to be potentially colder than average i.e. February 2021 and March 2023, we need to be evermore dubious! 😬

Monday 27 Mar - Wednesday 5 Apr

On Monday, largely dry with sunny spells and light winds after a frosty start. Coastal showers, wintry in places, across the northeast accompanied by stronger winds. Temperatures generally below average, but with lighter winds and sunshine feeling quite pleasant for most. Moving through the period, some spells of rain are likely to push across most areas, with the southeast seeing the driest conditions towards the end of the month. Into early April, likely remaining changeable but perhaps more in the way of drier interludes, especially across the south. Some strong winds are likely, with a low risk of gales, mainly for western areas. Temperatures are generally above average, with colder conditions possible in the north.

Thursday 6 Apr - Thursday 20 Apr

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April. Still some wetter weather at times, with occasional showers, which could be heavy or thundery. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight. The chances of strong winds are probably lower than normal, and whilst temperatures are likely to generally be near to slightly above normal, cooler spells remain possible.

Thursday 30 Mar - Saturday 8 Apr

Thursday is predicted to be a day of sunny spells and showers for most, with some more prolonged cloud and rain expected in the southeast at first along with some drizzly rain across parts of Scotland. These showers may be locally heavy, with thunderstorms possible. Ending the week and into the weekend, conditions likely remaining unsettled with showers or rain for many, also likely windy with a risk of coastal gales. This theme is predicted to continue, with southern and eastern areas likely drier, although a chance of showers or rain remains here. A continued risk of strong winds, with a low risk of gales, mainly in the west. Temperatures are expected to be generally above normal, although colder conditions may linger in the far north and northeast.

Sunday 9 Apr - Sunday 23 Apr

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April. Still some wetter weather at times, tending towards the south. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight. A possibility of strong winds at times, with temperatures generally close to average for the time of year.

Friday 31 Mar - Sunday 9 Apr

Some dry weather at first in parts of the north and east on Friday, but heavy rain and strong winds moving in from the west or southwest through the day. Some uncertainty in the details but the heaviest rain and strongest winds most likely affecting parts of the south and west. Thereafter, a predominantly unsettled pattern continues, with showers or longer spells of rain for many, although these interspersed with brief drier or brighter spells. By the second week of April, perhaps the greater chance of drier conditions will be across the north, albeit with some overnight frost. Further south, a higher likelihood of further wet weather at times. Overall, temperatures probably averaging out close to normal.

Monday 10 Apr - Monday 24 Apr

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April, with rain-bearing weather systems more likely to affect southern areas from time to time. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight, this most likely in the north. A possibility of strong winds at times, with temperatures generally close to average for the time of year.

Interesting to note the differences in the language used by the BBC presenters at different stages in the year. They keep going on about 'very mild conditions' right now, maxes of around 15-16 degrees are well above average, but soon such temps won't be anything special, and it will be interesting to see if they describe such temps in April as very mild, or just mild and soon start using the word 'warm' to describe say high teen temps... yet come summer such temps will be described as cool... the language is very much open to intepretation and one persons' mild is another persons' cool or cold I guess. I think they should just say above or well above average, or cool or colder than average or average. Also its the feel of the weather that is important, you can have a very wet windy day with a max of 15 degrees at this time of year, and I would not describe it as a very mild day - as often the wind takes the edge off things, and the rain makes for miserable weather. I'm being very pedantic but also such maxes might only last an hour or two and much of the day sees temps in the 11-13 degrees range hardly very mild, it annoys me and often it has a very SE bias, not everywhere might be seeing 'very mild' conditions. Rant over!

Saturday 1 Apr - Monday 10 Apr

Cloudy for most with showers on Saturday, possibly merging into longer periods of rain. The best of any brightness is likely to be in the southwest but here too there will likely be showers, perhaps heavy with a risk of thunder. Winds light to moderate, perhaps strong in the far north and around some coasts in the southwest. As we move further into April we are likely to see a gradual trend toward more settled conditions with perhaps the greater chance of drier conditions across the north, albeit with some overnight frost. Further south, there is a higher likelihood of further wet weather at times. Overall, temperatures probably averaging out to be close to normal.

Tuesday 11 Apr - Tuesday 25 Apr

Likely a continuation of the trend toward more settled conditions, with rain-bearing weather systems more likely to affect southern areas from time to time. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potential for frost and some fog overnight, this most likely in the north. A possibility of strong winds at times, with temperatures generally close to average for the time of year.

Sunday 2 Apr - Tuesday 11 Apr

The start of this period is most likely to be changeable. Showers or longer spells of rain remain prevalent, with heavy bursts still likely in places on Sunday. Drier and brighter interludes are possible as well, mainly across western regions, however these may be short-lived as further bands of rain are expected to arrive from the west. Eastern coasts may be rather grey and misty at times. The latter part of the period looks likely to become more settled, albeit with some wetter interludes, these most likely in the south and west of the country. Stronger winds at times, but temperatures remaining close to average, feeling pleasant in any sunshine. There is potential for overnight frost where skies are clear in the north and east.

Wednesday 12 Apr - Wednesday 26 Apr

Throughout this period there is likely to be a split in conditions between the north and south of the UK. Any unsettled weather is likely to take a southerly track, while higher pressure to the north should provide some generally drier weather here. Overall, it is likely to be somewhat drier than March across the country. Temperatures are uncertain, but there is a potential for cooler conditions at times, especially in the north and east, with a chance of overnight frosts.
