    Advanced Weather Alert

    Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Gales/Severe Gales and Heavy Rain

Affecting: England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland

    Date Valid For: 06:00 Sunday 03rd October - 18:00 Monday 04th October 2004

Time Of Issue: 22.40 Friday 01st October 2004

UPDATED (in bold): 21:30 Sunday 03rd October

A developing Atlantic depression is expected track across Ireland and Scotland during Sunday. This system, which contains the remnants of ex-hurricane Lisa will bring a spell of very wet and very windy weather to many parts of the UK during Sunday and into Monday.

Heavy rainfall is expected to sweep across from the southwest during Sunday, bringing localised falls of up to 50mm (2 inches), which may cause some localised flooding

The current wet and windy weather will continue during Sunday night, with gales developing in many areas, especially over coasts and hills, and perhaps severe gales by the end of the night and through Monday in northern parts of Britain. Gusts could reach as high as 70MPH in the north and east of Scotland during Monday.

With trees still in full leaf, damage and debris is possible from branches or trees coming down. Please take extra care if you have to make a journey.

In addition, the current very heavy rainfall over Wales is expected to spread to northwest England and souther Scotland during the night, before a band of heavy rain moves southeast across England during Monday.

Driving conditions will be dangerous, so extra care is strongly advised, and localised flooding may be an added problem.

    Confidence Level: 80%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when is necessary.
