Skies clearing up here now with the sun trying to come out, nothing in the forecast for anything but wonder if those showers near Birmingham will head this way

Yeah, heavy showers. Thunderstorms no. A few flashes of lightning that will be it.

Seems to be going to plan to me. WRF has a modest area of CAPE building over Shropshire and Cheshire in a few hours with precip. Lightning now in Shropshire around Bridgnorth/Kidderminster heading north. Temps seem to be slightly lower than predicted still, we’ll see.

Big juicy cell to the West of Birmingham, very high rainfall rates and reasonably frequent Lightning. Arnie do you have a visual ?

A thunderstorm developed in Eastern Shropshire and been a few lightning strikes down Somerset way, so I take back what I said regarding the Met Office warning today.

Reading Dan’s CW forecast - gotta hand it to him it was well placed

he played down the lightning risk but did say there was a small chance it was possible

One of the showers is edging into the zoomed area on V4 for us. Whether it will survive the rest of journey is another matter. But more rain is needed.

Sadly the showers are decaying as they approach so unless some rain turns up Sunday my water meter will whizzing round again.

I’m sure we will get better periods of thundery weather again (and, as is the case with stormy setups, it can be all hit and miss sometimes), but it feels like Cumulonimbus/Storm clouds just can’t be bothered at the moment. They’re being so lazy 😟

Unless they step up their game, I hope the Cumulonimbus/Storms clouds become fired and a new more reliable cloud takes over to bring the storm enthusiasts the thunderstorms of their dreams!

May I present to you: the NEW! Improved cumulonimbus/storm cloud we are calling “FUNDERCLOUD**”

FUNDERCLOUD improves upon the unreliability of the Cumulus 1st gen - a cloud which is notorious for its INDOLENCE in the face of an oncoming cold front or convergence zone

Oh yes! FUNDERCLOUD has more puffy bits and doesn’t need to smell France before it electrifies - it’s a whopper! Just give it a little skinny CAPE…  and B O S H!

All new FUNDERCLOUD doesn’t fear Reigate or have bias towards the English Channel… no no - this is FUNDER! See him whizz into the moderate zone like a big floating HERO!

No more sad summers with FUNDERCLOUD!

**coming late 2023. Beta version is prone to errors. Cloud glitches can be dangerous. Keep away from children. May contain nuts and gusts

Really like the sound of this 😅 But I wish FUNDERCLOUD would come out sooner! Such a long time to wait. If only it could be trialed next month as a beta beta beta version perhaps. And if it goes all wrong then use can use FUNDERCLOUD to take me out with a lightning strike!…

so for only the 35th time, yes 35th, time in a row (ive counted) a storm warning has been issued for my area......aaaaaaaaaaand nothing has happened. Absolute crap.

I don't know why they bother. I really don't. Nobody can get it wrong 35 times in a row. If its only a tiny risk then don't bloody mention it.

You need the FUNDERCLOUD api - I run mine on a Raspberry Pi

I’ll make a beta beta beta FUNDERCLOUD and roll it into your district over the weekend 🙂

For it to work you’ll have to wait for the popup to accept cookies at some point (most likely just as you’re about to do something really important)

Hey Man, feel your pain.. been 3 years for me for a proper storm… but tbh the risk assessments for thunderstorms  are a usually about right - all potential medium/high severity,  but low possibility... The last epic lightshow I saw was in 2019, and the ‘possibility’ was lower than today.. but the potential severity was very much reached when it actually happened! Thunderstorms are like snow - never expect it regardless of charts and warnings… and when it does happen you’ll be v happy. Short circuits the need for pi$$ed-off-ness! (Mostly…)

This location very rarely gets storms after a plume, in fact never recently, best chance tends to be flabby lows setup with not really hot temps, end of Coronavirus lockdown 1 was good, 3 days in a row, June 2020

If you’re doing a kickstarter I will pledge £1000 lol, but only if it has a “no one strike then die” mode.

Gosh! yees are all asking for a lot of features already. It would appear cumulonimbus is so yesterday!

Yes I will add that mode 😊 as well as the “actual cats and dogs” setting people are demanding

Please don't get disheartened guys about the recent lack of storms. The heat of late has just been too dry to kick-start any thunder storms.

Good news is that we are fast approaching August. Now is the time when we enter high humidity. Perfect for creating the storms we all crave.

I'm convinced we will see some crackers over the next few weeks.

I hope you're right peachy!

In fact I think we all hope you're right at this point because it must be starting to become just too depressing to bear much more of these let downs.
