There's a total lunar eclipse during the early hours of 16th May 2022.  The moon sets for the UK during the total eclipse phase, so depending how far west you are will determine the length of time you can witness the total lunar phase. Besides cloud amounts, another factor on the visibility of the total eclipse phase is that it occurs during the dawn twilight and if it is a dark eclipse, it could be tricky to see especially as it will be low down.

Penumbral phase starts: 2.32am

Partial phase starts : 3.27am

Total phase starts: 4.29am

It was looking hopeful, earlier in the week but it looks as though the weather may scupper chances of seeing this eclipse.

It is not a great decade for total lunar eclipses  to be seen for this part of the world.  The next one where all stages can be seen from the UK is not until 20th/21st December 2029.

2090 will a vintage year for the UK as regards to eclipses. Not only will there be a total solar eclipse but there will also be two total lunar eclipses that year.

Unfortunately not, I was going to attempt a time lapse of it, oh well, maybe next time

Hope you manage to get a clearing in the weather before the sun comes up
