Feel sorry for those who spent most of the summer at all hours hoping to capture a display and when you think the season is over now, one of the season's better displays shows up and you miss it.

Outside the lingering twilight season as well at least here

Yep, thats me!..... i think most of us had written off chances this year, but yet again an early dawn display appeared taking many by surprise.

Theres absolutely nothing on the daisy chart that would have suggested such a display for us.

But im not stopping up all night, have work etc.. its just tough luck.

Another one missed here yet again as we had thick fog this time! It has been a nightmare this year, without fail it has been cloudy or foggy!

Missed that baby😴

A long week of visiting relatives as completely thrown me off the NLC track, but it does show it`s never over till it`s over

We have another factor to consider, more so this season than in any other

The new commercial space `war` (such as SpaceX). which is resulting in more rocket exhaust partials & moisture in the mesosphere  🤔

Over the next couple of night`s... it`s the peak of the Perseids meteor shower so my cameras will be out tonight

and maybe some August NLC`s🤞

I missed them too, I'd given up on NLCs for this year.

Shame the full moon is at the Persied peak, and the Geminids this year

The Persieds are decreasing according to this

It peaks the nights of August 11-12, but it's no longer the year's most reliable meteor shower.

@Iceman2606

"August 11/12 does seem incredibly late for noctilucent cloud sightings but a fair few reports into Scotland and N England already tonight"

Keeping an eye on the euro cams for later on🤞 ...  an interesting article concerning the amount of rocket launches over the last few weeks

I have started an 8" continues time-lapse from around 10pm last night and I haven't seen any thing yet

Did anyone spot anything?  Too tired to stay awake, nodded off during the most likely time for a viewing.  Did wake to see the sky full of the most gorgeous deep orange of the sunrise.  Yesterday's pics show them quite high up too, disappointed I missed it.  Thanks for your pics peeps.

Pretty mad seeing photos of such late (and great!) displays, when usually it's said in here that around mid-July is pretty much the end of the season.

BAD NEWS....

NASA's AIM spacecraft, which monitors noctilucent clouds, may be dead due to problems with an onboard battery. Mission controllers have not yet given up all hope, so stay tuned.

AIM did quite well in serving for 15 years considering it was only designed to be operational for a mere 2, maybe in the not-so distant future NASA could recruit the help of Space-X and use a cargo Spaceship to bring it back down for a overhaul as part of a test mission.. wishful thinking but never say never.

On the plus-side the NLC season opening is only 2 months away and this year i'm anticipating what effect, if any, last year's eruption of 'Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai' has had regarding the upper-layer ice composition.

it is going to be a blow, as we will have to rely on live cameras across europe now. at least with the aim satelite we knew when the season started and how strong sighting were likely to be..

Someone noting the 'Hunga-Tonga' water still in the strat over on the Arctic melt season thread

I'd imagine any excess moisture would lead to better displays this season?

All we need is the dust!

Hopefully with all the commercial satellites being launched some of their exhaust contamination particles may produce that dust🤔

It would be nice of NASA to update the blogs concerning the AIM satellite - it`s been a long 2 weeks🙄

looks like we could be relying on the the Russian websites for any forecasting😟 .. or hopefully a Japanese forum site (if we can find one?)

At least the 5 day transit around the pole is a constant

Still early days yet to kick off a new season thread

although the newest post from here caught my attention

https://www.facebook.com/groups/nlcaroundtheworld

Not NLC`s for me

Anyway with the high possibility of no AIM daisy`s to aid us in some kind of forecasting

I have been trying to find a Japanese/ Korean NCL forum site (see the reason in the above post)

I`ve only been searching Google, but to no avail

I don`t tweet -  so was wondering if peoples who do, can search🙂

is a tweet search even a thing😳
