I agree, if these are any indication, we wont see anything tonight and so far theres nothing on any webcam...

Probably, one question though

How quickly can NLCs develop? Minutes, hours, days

I've always wondered

Not sure exactly ..  it`s got to be something to do how quick the aerosols in the mesosphere freeze  Days possibly

I need the practice so I'm up for the duration

Ive not seen any reports of anything last night, so our prediction using the daisy and Euro webcam seems to work?

The question is... will those clearer skies to our West make it here by dusk? The clouds are moving briskly on a decent breeze...

That time of year again!

Looking at the photos I took of them 2 years ago, I used exposures of around 13 seconds, f/5, and an ISO of 800. Would any of you who also take photos of them say that's about right? Or do I need to tweak it?

But i have now a samsung galaxy s22 ultra ... supposed to have a great night vision, i will see..

Depends on the ambient light, focal length etc. Just try not too overexpose the clouds.

Like what's been said above, it just depends on how bright the clouds and all that. Just tweak it till you get it right

Thanks guys. My brain defaults into the settings I need for lightning, so it becomes hard to tune out of that when photographing NLCs!

The way I decide it is always have ISO the lowest possible and be a last resort. Only increase it if you need more light but want to get the NLCs sharp without movement (or of course if you're shooting handheld, which I don't generally recommend for NLC capturing). Aperture and shutter speed very much dependent on the brightness of the landscape and the NLCs. If it's a bright landscape with a fair amount of light pollution, I veer towards f/11 which is a standard for landscapes in general for me. Then I change the shutter speed appropriately until it gets to a necessary level of exposure but if the NLCs are moving fast, I will then bump up the ISO and keep the shutter speed under 10 seconds if possible.

Thank you very much for that advice, I'll take it on board! And yeah, I wouldn't dream of shooting them hand-held!

Camera is charged and ready to go, wind will be a problem I guess, but fingers crossed for a decent display

It's very clear tonight, probably the clearest it's been at this time of day for weeks!

I'll get my camera ready to go too!

No cloud here at the mo, should have confirmation within the next hour or so if there's any NLCs lurking about here.

Low cloud has rolled in here on a strong breeze, but it is probably just the coast that is affected

Maybe an early night and set the alarm for around 2am
