Good summers came in two's 75-76, 83-84, 94-95. At a push could combine 05-06 and 13-14 to an extent...

Yeah,  but I would class 2003 and 2006 as better summers than 2005.

05 was a decent summer with some poor spells in July and June I think. August that year was quite sunny though, and that’s something that’s been missing since the mid 2000s.

No, apart from a week or two in late July and early August.

There was also a hot sunny spell in the second half of May, similar to May 2010, but unlike 2010 the weather deteriorated in early June.

Worst summers in Dublin using the Manchester summer index (since 1942) along with notes why index was poor

2012 157 (all months wet, high number of wet days and cloudy)

2020 157 (exceptionally cloudy and high number of wet days)

1985 161 (cool maxima and cloudy, not overly wet compared to some)

1958 162 (wettest on record)

1980 162 (very cloudy)

1986 163 (very cloudy July and cold/deluge August)

2007 166 (exceptionally wet June/July)

Yes 1984 was the best summer of the 1980s here just pipping 1989 and 1983 in 3rd.I would also say that all three of these summers were better than any summer since except 1995 and on a par with 2018.

1995 and 2018 are the high benchmarks. 2006 was on course to join them but a rather lacklustre August. Still I would include 2006 in the best half dozen since 1983..

2018/1995 equal top

1984 2nd

1983

1989

2006

2003 7th place

Where’s the love for summer of 90 and 94?

July and August 90 were mostly hot and sunny or warm.

1994 had a decent hot and sunny second half of June and hot July. August was more unsettled, but still some warm sunny days.

2006 was still a good summer, just let down by a poor cloudy august, similar to 2014.

Forgive me if this is a bad necro but I wanted to comment. For my town (SE Wales) the following pop to mind.

2007= Year without a summer, felt more like a early extended autumn with the constant rain and below 20 highs.

2012= Similar to 2007 but not as bad as August was pretty decent for me at least.

2017= Not as dreadful as 07/12 but just a very belch amemic summer with sub 20 highs and cloud galore.

2021= Just a cloudfest with no real dymanic or intresting weather (At least the likes of 2007 offered exciting storms at times).
