yep, just posted it in the southeast group but just had a few cracks of thunder here despite looking nothing like a storm on the radar, definitely skimmed by that blob on the radar, 9 days into the new year and already had thunder, that's the earliest it has ever been maybe it's a sign it will be a thundery year 😅

Plenty of lightning activity piling into the western isles presently.

Heard thunder from my windowless dungeon at work.

Getting reports from family at home that there was a lot of thunder and lightning activity.

It's my first post of 2023, so happy new year everyone! (Even if I'm late, by just a bit)

Anyway. I just saw my first flash of 2023! Shame I didn't see the bolt, but I was sitting down, next to my PC and then flash! The brightest flash I've seen in a while. I think I've seen lightning now in every month for the last 4 months! Hopefully this streak will continue!

The next few days look to be quite interesting... Hope to see some interesting activity. Wow.

Happy storm season 2023! Early start this year by the looks of things. Fairly active in the Bristol channel earlier. Hoping this is a sign for a good thundery spring and summer.

This is a nice surprise. Pompey is lighting up. Must say the bolts whilst driving were exceptionally loud even in the car with heavy rain. Made us both jump!

Storms are really kicking off! Sad as my camera happened to be facing North and not south... but good show!

Just had lightning here, twice for this year already, best start to the year Storms wise for me despite the great dreary days, as I've been on the southern portion of these systems where the squall's and showers are. Given the 'horrible' setup, it's ended up quite well for me overall as I get excited by a bit of windy weather and a flicker or two.

I saw isolated flashes of lightning this evening, and had a shower which produced some small hail around 10.35 pm

Nice little producer an hour ago, five flashes, 4 distant rumbles and one almighty crack nearby!

Big hail producer too with wild straight line winds for three minutes too.

Low pressure centre deepening over Cornwall right now. Interesting swirl of clouds. Meteo France is forecasting some storms over the Cherbourg and north coast areas, too. Some are already active there, as well as some brief activity in northern Cornwall.

Ok… That was lightning 🌩️ … And a very distant rumble of thunder! 😃👍🏻🌩️☃️

Evening everyone. 😊

Is this going to turn I into my first proper thundersnow event since the winter of 1981? 🌩️🌨️☃️
… Probably not… But I can dream.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
