I recall seeing that a while ago, but it’s been proven to be an edited video.

Shame, but does look just like how it was described to me by someone who has experienced ball lightning 😕

You can tell that's fake just looking at it, although almost convincing with the lens flares going on!

How rare is that? There’s a condensation funnel above it so it’s either an actual supercell tornado/land spout, or I think it’s most likely a waterspout that came ashore. Probably to do with the comparatively warmer seas having an affect. Never seen any videos of a tornado in a snowy environment so I’m absolutely amazed.

Had a flash of lightning last night during some heavy rain that lasted from about 7 - 9pm, then came back later. Lovely and relaxing (ain't had proper rain since new year 😠). There was no sound with the lightning though but I have had that happen before when it's quite far away right on the edge of audible range (light travel's further and faster than sound after all). I've also had the same thing when I've experienced thundersnow (I feel really lucky and privileged to have witnessed this rare event not once, but twice in my life 🥰) which can give a dampening effect to sound.

I'm hoping this is a good sign for a stormy spring/summer ahead. 🤞

Great Hucklow is just a few miles down the road from me so if the roads are clear-enough tomorrow I may have a pop-up and do a quick damage assessment, i'm fairly sure someone from TORRO will also be looking at this from a meteorological pov as the initial pattern of damage suggests a Tornadic event but with locals in the village reporting that it lasted some 45 seconds i'm also thinking in the lines of a microburst/rotor wind given the RADAR at the time didn't look too potent in terms of CAPE convection.

A nice run-down by Metweather with their thoughts on this morning's Tornado at Great Hucklow, the team have access to higher-resolution data and can confirm (themselves) that it was indeed a Tornado by looking at the synoptic data & preliminary damage reports. Officially it'll be down to TORRO for confirmation but based on what i've seen my thoughts are swinging back to the likelyhood of it being a Tornado than a localised Microburst or Rotor-Winds. I was skeptic at first as it didn't seem like the atmosphere was conducive of Tornadic development but the SKEW-T shows where the low-level shear was hiding in the very lower layers, which is all the cell needed for 'spinning.'

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
