once you have experienced extreme cold and snow for any extended period ..UK winters suddenly become much more attractive minus the rain of course..if i could split my time i would definitely spend the winter in the UK and the summer here in Canada

I'm struggling to pay the heating bills this winter, disappointing to see lots of colder than average conditions in the forecast.

If you mean the 500mb temperature, then I totally agree.

Vile weather, I hate living here, just want to hibernate for 4 months.

I couldn’t agree more, Late October to Mid March period sucks for weather. That said, I do like going for a walk in deep snow so that’s one good thing about winter for me.

We love the mild

There’s not much in Buxton at this time of year, it’s the coldest place in England!

More like bloody freezing up here! Frost all day, temp barely got above freezing, temp dropped to about -4 last night, it has been sunny though.

I know it’s such bad timing. It’s Sod’s law that we have a decade of mostly mild winters, then right in the middle of an energy/cost of living crisis, we suddenly get a severely cold spell of weather.

I more refer to some in the indoor temp thread who want it down to 10c as some badge of honour

I've managed to keep a max of 27c and a min of 18 with a running 4 degree mean over the last 7 days out of a 5kw solid fuel stove with 2 fans in a 70ft x 7ft narrowboat.

Stoke and riddle the stove twice a day and plonk some extra nuggets on top when going to bed. Empty the ash can daily.

And who would that be, then?

I looked through that whole thread (which I started), and couldn't see a single post indicating anything of that sort.

And yeah, some people aren't lucky enough to have temps of 21°C inside all the time. I'm lucky to afford to keep it around 15-17 in the day with my heating on as much as I can afford. I'm physically fit and pretty cold tolerant thankfully, but my financial situation isn't the best at the moment. I also make sure to wear plenty of layers.

I do have to keep ventilation in the bedroom, which means it can get cold in there, and that is due to medical reasons, as I have a nerve disorder that means I have to keep my feet cold so as not to get burning pains in them (a sort of neuropathy) so I have posted some low indoor temps in that room. I tend to overheat when I sleep and again this due to the medical condition. Yes temps can get to 10°C in there, no it isn't a "badge of honour" but the only way I can sleep comfortably and the ventilation helps to prevent damp.

Don't go calling people "idiots", not very polite really, especially when you're not brave enough to name who you're talking about.

I have covid, so it the current weather makes me feel even colder than usual.

I like the cold frosty weather, but I don’t like it when I’m standing on a station platform at 6am freezing my behind off in 0-5c.

More people struggle in this cold, compared to the heatwave conditions of plus 30c last summer.

And as for heating your home, I have two radiators on full blast right now. I can’t sit in the flat without heating. It’s too cold, even when it’s the average 10-13c.

I can’t wait for next summer and 30c days.
