Always expect first half of November to be atlantic dominated and mild. Can't recall many a first half to November beimg cold and/or particularly settled, compared to second half.

1985 probably only one. 2006 brought a cold first week but then became very mild.

1978, cold last week only. 1987 turned chilly at the end.

1988 possibly a cold first half.

1993 second half cold, ditto 1996, 2001 brought a shortlived northerly. 2005 second half cold, 2008 became cold late on, 2010 second half cold only, 2012 became cold late on, 2016 was quite cold throughout, 2017 cold late on.

Any stats back up general view first half Nov normally mild or very mild.

Going purely by memory, November 1988 had a mild first half, followed by a much colder second.

2016 indeed was cold from the 3rd until about the 10th. It included a rare cold bonfire night weekend.

I remember the frosty spell in November 2006 too. The 06th was the coldest day of the month here as fog lingered most of the day.

Other than that… can’t think of any.

Not sure about this, the last week of November 1985 was particularly wintry, saw lying snow here.

Looking at the stats for London from 1945 to 1964 (Brazell), November seems to have been remarkably mild, with the majority of years above the (then) average of about 45.2F. The coldest November of the period was Nov 1952 at 4.3 below average, but even this seems to have resulted from a cold spell at the end of the month, with 25th being particularly cold.

November 1980 had an early season cold spell and it turned much milder mid month, so the first half probably was colder than the second half

yep i remember the first week of Nov 1980 being cold with some flurries of snow in a cold easterly..probably colder than most of the following winter
