Going by the Met Office forecast it looks like my part of W Sussex will see a sunless final week of January. Probably has been a dull month overall down here.

Approaching the last third of winter now, am hoping we see one final cold spell before winter is out. As we get into March my focus starts turning to Spring warmth. Personally I hate a cold Spring, so not looking for any Easter snow.

Since 2018, 3/4 February's have been rubbish with only 2021 having a cold spell. Surely we can't repeat the same as last year.. what a disaster that was.

I’m slightly biased towards Feb 2019 due to my location but I would take another like that if we can’t get a more traditional February.

The month started with nearly 20cm of snow on the 01st. Then an Atlantic spell from the 04th-10th. Then we all know how beautifully springlike it became for the rest of the month. I’d take that 100 times over one like last year!

Well in all Februarys since 2017, only 2018 was below average, and all of the other five have been mild or very mild and not one even close to average, though 2021 did have a cold spell in the second week.

Dreadful outputs in the medium/long term...another mild February on the cards, I'm going for 'Winter's over' 🙂

as for current weather equally nasty...certainly for utility bills, no sun but cloudy and fairly cold - trying to keep the house warm.

February 2022 was a frostless month here which, as far as I can remember, is the only February not to have recorded a frost. We had a few 0.5Cs but not 0C. I don’t think it will be as mild as last year.

Good job the PV is obliterated by all that warming or we might have seen mild zonal in the models all the way out. 🙈

Snow may be a no go  but I wouldn't mind a good windstorm  not many this year

Not the ones the GFS are spinning up in the Atlantic though. Pure madness.

What’s worrying is that the ECM +240 is becoming a default pattern with huge high pressure centres over Iberia.

Is this the new average winter pressure distribution?

I have checked charts from the 1960’s and it’s almost impossible to find a synoptic chart like this mornings ECM

Posted this on the Model thread first thing this morning... GFS, GFS mean,  ECM and UKMO reverting back to high anomaly to the south east...again.  Strangely enough my post hasn't made it to the light bulb thread!

Already bored of the winter gloom that accompanies a slack, short fetch easterly. Give me sunshine and showers on a mild Westerly over this please.

If it wasn't for the price of gas I wouldn't mind. I've actually got a mist coming on now, think the cloud is thickening rather than fog, ready for the front.

Aye, me too, but will be wet with E'lys I'm guessing, but would also love a late March 2013!

No thanks. I don’t want winter weather to drag on. I prefer a nice warm up like Spring 2020.

Three completely different solutions on the GFS 00z, 06z and 12z respectively. 00z looks like a repeat of 1998, 06z a repeat of 2020 and 12z a repeat of 1991!
