Another grim day, never got above 1 today and foggy, ice everywhere. Can’t wait for milder weather.

Trouble is that for now, milder might mean dull, damp and wet. Have had quite of that in the autumn and during the 4 weeks starting December 18th!

Well, we know which one won't verify!🤐

If only it was the 2020 one that was the unrealistic option. Mind you even mild and dry (in the 00z) wouldn't be good just yet, if we want spring flowering to occur when it should, in spring. Let's keep the maxima in the middle single figures for another three weeks or so.

i would say the Pacific High is the same as the Azores high it just has a tendency to wander around the northern pacific more than the Azores High does the northern Atlantic

Yea I guess your right got a bit more leash than the azores ..but other than a switching la nina.. el nino

.we have a constant..gulf stream sort of certain isn't it?.no oscillating,so its important it needs monitoring because other than a nuclear winter .

Its stops we will too..

Ps ..like the  old saying ..don't let anyone run AMOC

Thought it was supposed to be milder behind the cold front. Sounds like it changes nothing.

Been 2⁰c here most of the day still is thought the rain would warm things up, as usual, but no change. Can't wait till it clears.

Strange being up here with it mild today, when the south still had a real hard frost, frozen lakes and canals etc!!

Finally, the wind swing around to the nw, and temp is 4⁰, since when have NW winds been warmer than sw, then wsw winds.

OK, so no precipitation in the recent unstable polar air, but heavy rain crops up of all places in the middle of a High Pressure at c.1030mb.

Yep there was nothing light about tonight's rain down here, apart from the first hour. It was a normal very heavy cold front, except it warmed things up. Everything is backwards lol.

Quite an unusual temp graph for here over the last 24 hours.

 Could contain: Line Chart, Chart

Air quality has been abysmal over the last 4 or 5 days. Much better since the cold front moved through.

Could contain: White Board, Chart

January has gone quick for me this year when usually it drags on and on. I suppose it's because January wasn't all that bad this time round (in my personal opinion). Though I am not very hopeful, it would be nice to have another cold snap or two in February as well as a named storm which I believe we still haven't had yet.

And this this time last week, it was calm, bright and sunny yet the air pressure was around 995mb.

Yes the temperature was rising slowly before the cold front arrived but there was a noticeable increase when the front went through. It has dropped a bit again since then but not a lot. Very unusual, although I guess with all the stagnant cold air we had until then it makes some sort of sense.

It didn't rise Infront here, a steady 2⁰c untill wind changed to north west. Dp went up from 1 to 2 when the rain started.

Totally agree, not a cloud in the sky here and going by the average of the model runs, high pressure to the south east should ensure plenty of repeats as we go through the beginning of February. I feel an early spring coming up this year.

Of course, rain showers from a north-easterly are never blocked by hills.

Didn't feel very warm here with a cold breeze although when the sun did eventually come out it did make a slight difference.

Hmm, getting the impression the GFS op is no longer 'a total embarrassment' to the model world and 'should be binned' ?

Nice to drive home from work tonight in sunshine 😁

MetO update, for right into last part of Feb, says No to cold wintry weather.

Dont believe any hype you read elsewhere, until UK MetO say so.
