Brian gaze from weather outlook going for cold winter very interesting read say if this cold gets going in dec will highly likely carry on all through January to exiting times I highly rate him to on the ball with his forecast

Where did you read this? Saw your comment on the MOD thread so went to TWO website and couldn't find it. Just the winter forecast saying confidence low but possibility of a colder than average winter...

Well, went to the madhouse, got a headache in about 30 seconds. Can someone tell me if it's going to get windy next week please? All I could see in there was people going on about shortwaves and greenie highs. Wind affects my work  TIA 😊

Totally off topic.  If you are a Christmas Turkey person….please order/get then in now…..there is a sizeable shortage this year.

BFTP…..sorry mods…please allow to be read then move it

There is!  For that reason we be having roast leg of organic lamb, from organic farm up’th valley.  Local egg lady says with winter light levels, price of henfeed and electricity costs she’s stopping selling eggs from next week as she feels she can’t increase prices for egg sizes.

I've noticed this past week at the workshop that the air has changed quite a bit since last week. It has definitely a "cold" smell to it here. I expect a few may understand what I mean.

I wonder if we'll see our first sub -10C min here from this cold spell. 2010 had 10 such days; 7th Jan 2010 and 19th Dec 2010 were notable however with lows of -15c and -14c respectively. Since then the lowest temperature has been -8C.

Did the BFTE in 2018 not reach -10c over Northern England?

    I could be wrong

Hi, over here in the West of Ireland  nice calm December Day  with a light Easterly Breeze. Bookies have slashed their odds on a White Christmas.

Think there were some impressive lows in SE England, but here it only went down to -7C on the 28th.

The BFTE was mostly dry for West of London regions but just cold.

Lets see a proper wintry spell for a change!

Change of season and it certainly feels raw in that E’ly breeze here, just 2°C with a chance of a snow shower forecast

We've had a chilly few days in London but nothing unusual.

But WOW next week's cold has really turned quite notable now. 6Z GFS shows parts of the country remaining below freezing with consecutive ice days from Thursday onwards.

Lows of -10°C across Scotland and N England, and that could easily drop to -15 -20°C with deep snow cover and light winds. 🥶 *RAMP*

I love a cold snowy spell as much as anyone but I must admit feeling a little bit worried about the effect of the cold on people's health in these tough times.

Some people are genuinely frightened to put their heating on because of the cost, especially those on the margins on pre payment meters.

I'm not so concerned for myself, I think I can manage heating my little house do really feel for those who are going to struggle this winter.

And where will the deep snow cover come from?

I never trust the wind chill on most charts, it goes significantly overboard.

I remember the GFS showing -20°C and below down here during the 2018 BFTE, it got nowhere near that.
