There must quite a high level of confidence for a warning to be issued 4 days in advance . . .

Because not everyone likes cold and snow. Give me a euro high with mild southerly winds any day in the winter.

Everybody loves snow at Christmas. 😁

I do hope this cold spell materialises and is prolonged because, knowing our luck, this will be our only chance this winter seaweed tea leaves and chocolate teapot aside.

Part of the problem is that we've become so snow-starved that any half decent synoptics are fallen upon even at +240.  I do enjoy the rollercoaster but I can't stand those people who say, over and over, that they were right and so on.  How can you be right until something has actually taken place?!  Whenever a 'poor' run comes out, it's toys all over the place, finger pointing etc...it's mad.  Great viewing though!

For what it's worth (and I hope I'm wrong because I bloody love snow!) I think it's going to end up quite a north/south divide event.  Does annoy me when people talk about "widespread snow for everyone!" and then the accompanying image shows patchy snow for favoured places (usually north east and midlands).  Oh well.  Seasons cheer, everyone!  The weather will do what the weather does, no matter who says what!

I know I’ve only just returned.... but I wish to air my dichotomy this year..... my Meteorological head wants cold and snow and lots of it..... my climate change head wants signs of a proper winter still and my compassionate head wants the mildest winter on record .... how do I square that circle?

or maybe, the answer is I can be happy with all outcomes 😆

True. A white Easter seems to be more achieveable these days.

Anyone else afraid to venture into the MOD thread? 🤣

It’s certainly on another level in there! What do they talk about after the winter has passed? There seems to be a post every five minutes on what might happen in the next few days.

I’ve never in my life seen such a bunch that get so excited about possible cold weather incoming.

With T+120s like these from GFS it isn't really necessary to go any further.

Control run shows something more similar to what I would expect with that low stalling and slowly filling/dispersing, that’s where things get really complicated…

Have a feeling the next week or so of model watching could be get the popcorn out material.

An amazing setup seems to be piecing together slowly, let's hope this becomes a propee trend over the next few days though.

For the sake of those of us who have to pay our energy bills, let's hope not 🙏

Time to hit the beer. This rollercoaster ride is all too much. 🍻

As someone all of 2miles south of the M4, after the past 12hrs, I’m looking into Tanqueray endorsements

my memory definitely isn’t what it was. That’s for sure. 😂

but, but, I see an opportunity for a historic cold spell despite the climate changing massively since 2010

Reminded of that Carpenters track

Its only just begun

You seriously think that the climate of 4 billion years has changed "massively" in 12 years???
