The big question is, when will the MetO issue a "bit chilly for the time of year" warning?

Expectations far too high, people just looking at charts without taking into account by 168 hrs we will heading into week 2 March...Met have me for 8 c next Tuesday as the big freeze hits! 🤐

yep - too much checking 850's and salivating over -8's rather than ground level - avg still looking around  5c London anyway

In March what do you expect?

When any showers come along, with -8 uppers and low thicknesses, temperatures will fall away to freezing as the upper air is dragged towards the surface. In any frontal snowfall, temperatures would probably hover around freezing.

Very true if we do get any sustained snow but down south hmm well that's unlikely

Spent Nov, Dec and Jan cheering on cold with little joy (although I did see a fair bit of snow in December that hung around for a week) and then, the very weekend I want benign conditions (10th-12th) things decide to turn arctic

Unbelievable. Gutted if the football gets cancelled and the weekend gets ruined

Just hope that March solar input does its job and turns snow to rain but I doubt it

You've thrown in the towel over prospects of the disappearance of the potential cold spell?

Can you see ANY way out of next week's projected slushy/sleety/snowy mess? Or is it nailed do you think?

Judging from this morning's outputs it is looking more than likely, albeit then slowly improving

I think it depends if you're happy with just falling snow or snow that settles and sticks around for longer than half an hour. We will need some extensive cloud cover or a frontal/battleground snowfall event rather than just showers for that.

It's always nice to see snow falling, but personally by the time we get to mid March, snow falling that melts as soon as the shower passes and the sun comes out doesn't really tick any boxes, but I appreciate it still will for others.

Let's hope we get something memorable rather than sunshine and showers only.

I now see things are getting completely out of hand in the mod thread with meteorology actually being dragged into the mix. Where will it all end I ask myself? 😵

When someone writes the words ' gravity of what is happening' you know it's serious in the mad thread. I spat my tea out, half expecting the post to be about something serious but no, it was just about the weather in 10 days time 😆😂. I stick to this thread for what's happening 😀😆

I'm still struggling to see anything particularly exciting happening in terms of snow, especially for low ground in the south. Yes, there might be some wet snow that sticks in places and quickly turns to slush, and no doubt there will be some isolated good spots which do better (especially on high ground) but in the south I don't see any widespread snow event with temps staying well below freezing for days on end and loads of dry powder snow. The north may do better of course, more so any high ground or mountainous areas

I had to chuckle at somebody suggesting elsewhere that we're in for another '47 or '63 ........ Firstly those events started earlier in the winter, secondly they went on for months, and thirdly they were much colder and snowier, one more so than the other.

People need to remember that it's going to be March starting tomorrow ...... any sun will quickly melt any lying snow unless the temps stay well below freezing. If this was all happening in December, January or February I'd be far more positive about the outcome.

For the benefit of those that love snow I hope I'm wrong, but for those that want Spring, increasingly 'warmer' weather, lower heating bills (and of course an easier time for the wildlife) I hope that this colder weather turns out to be a damp squib.

Oh yes, and hopefully the irresponsible and self serving gutter press won't make this out to be some kind of weather armageddon and get people into a panic, but I guess they will ......... anything to sell a few more of their tatty rags and get some clicks to sell advertising.

Totally agree, my threshold for winter weather is 28th Feb... I now look for warmth, especially this year with the old energy etc, etc.

I would normally agree, but seeing heavy snow fall in London on the 17th March six years ago was some sight. I remember telling people the day before it was going to snow, they all  thought I was daft because it was  fairly mild and pleasant on the 16th.

i don't mind an epic snowfall in march, just wished the type of charts on show was in the heart of winter.

Quite agree. I'm trying to recall how many lambs were killed in N Wales and elsewhere by the snowfall around 22nd March 2013
