The lack of snow this Winter makes the thought of seeing some of the white stuff in March rather exciting. One thing to shaken up this cloudy dull weather.

Don’t think I would want it to go on throughout all of March, as I would love to see some March Spring warmth also. Too much looking at the models becomes distracting and fatiguing after a while, particularly when showing outlooks that tickle our fancy (cold, snow, warm weather, thundery outbreaks, sunshine, gales). Sometimes I miss it when there wasn’t all these charts and data available to us. You could still get forecasts for the next few days ahead. But there was more of a sense of mystery as to how the weather could pan out.

Exactly, roll on April when this silliness will be over for 6 months

I'm not 100% sure about that this year lol, though I do agree it would be nice to warm up by April.

In a last ditch attempt to foil the potential cold/snow, I've told my friends and family to expect snow next week 🤣

I am one of the very few people on here who actually doesn't mind cold weather in March. You wouldn't expect the weather to turn autumnal as soon as September arrives, so why should the same not apply with spring-like weather and March?

I wouldn't want any cold weather lasting beyond mid March though. I am 100% in spring mode by that point.

The weather continues to take the absolute p**s

Mallorca has been gripped by a winter storm that is wreaking havoc on the Spanish holiday island, with 20 inches of snow shutting down roads and cutting off power.

I shouldn't have assumed that a brew of high pressure and dry air would bring a fair amount of sunshine. The last few days have been damn dreary. 👎

Lol. If you want snow head south to the med! 🤣 Meanwhile in the UK the polar vortex SSW thingy might give up some sleety slush if we are lucky!  But even this will be downgraded once we get to the actual event. 😀

You're right, we often get warm, summery conditions well into September, so why wouldn't we look for or expect cold/snowy weather into March?

I think there are differences with the comparison though - most of us don't quibble if the weather is sunny and 25 degrees versus sunny and 28 degrees. Either way, it's still sunny and warm. However, with winter weather, most of us are looking for deep cold and snow, rather than wintry showers or snow that falls but melts very quickly. The line between these two outcomes is very fine, as we all know. I don't think many of us are happy with cold but slushy wintryness.

For me as a cold/snow fan, once we get to mid March, i'm at the point where if we can't get a pretty exceptional cold spell that can actually deliver in March, given the increased solar energy, then I'd much prefer us to start seeing some Spring warmth rather than cold that doesn't give us what we all want.

Saying that, I'm not against snow in March if we get something exceptional. If we can't get that, then i'd rather it just warm up.

Dont worry, we're heading into the magical 168 timeframe, this is when the models start to pick up on little features which end up diverting the cold uppers away from the UK 😁

Ha, yes indeed, which I tried to point out on the MAD thread but it fell upon deaf ears - they'll never learn! 😆

I'm not in the best part of the country to get snow in March, but if there's a chance I'll certainly take it. If nothing else there's a chance of something more interesting on the horizon.

Either mild and sunny or snow would be better than boring 6 degrees and cloud really.

You bet they will be coming up with a name to call it - brainstorming... something like the polar express I imagine, watch the words snow bomb get banded about..

One advantage of March snow compared to Dec or Jan snow is the extra daylight to enjoy and see it, a good 2-3 hours in the afternoon/early evening.. on the flip side a far greater margin for it to thaw given the longer daylength and especially so if the sun comes out, but under cloud cover, snow can stick all day, certainly up until around the equinox.

2018 gets talked about a lot. West of the Pennines was just cold and sunny. Not that I’m bitter or anything. Much prefer this set up.

Although in the east of the region we got 2 days off work through it.
