Why not put 'upgrade' and 'downgrade' into the swear filter, and replace both with 'model realignment' or just with 'realignment'? 😁

How is this not even half baked easterly with no cold uppers, light winds, a fetch from 20 miles off the east coast and 1030+ pressure producing precipitation all over England and into Wales, when the December cold longer fetch northerly/easterly, the Jan northerly and the Feb 2021 very cold easterly all produced next to nothing in huge areas of the country?

Wintry precipitation charts are often dodgy at the best of times, particularly when the conditions for showery snow are likely to be marginal and still some days away. Ignore them for now and start to take some note about 24 hours prior to whichever day you are planning to look at.

Finally into March which, although starting on a cold note (though some white stuff again would be nice) it must feel like a relief for those with Winter Blues or Seasonal Affective Disorder. Same for those who love the Spring. March can still feel like a wintry month, but then a month where spots of green become increasingly noticeable on some trees and bushes with the daylight getting even longer. Some warmer/much milder weather being possible.

I remember back in January how it felt like such a stretch to get to March. And now it’s here. How time does fly!

It would be reasonable to say that while some who despise Winter and/or have SAD will feel some satisfaction being into the new month, it would probably take until April to bring further contentment for some with Winter Blues/SAD/A dislike of Winter. Hardest part of the year feels like it’s mostly out the way with though.

I'm not feeling it today. That thick cloud has been around 10 days or so and it's starting to trigger my sad blocking out sunlight. Maybe next week once the sun comes ... either way I shall be dragging myself out into the garden come Saturday now it's March! Time starts to fly ...

Yes the quoting in another post is a pain LOL!

I cannot wait for some active weather to arrive! I don't care if its rain or wind or snow or sunshine and showers, just something other than cloudy still nothingness. It's OK for a few days but now it's just plain boring.

Yes it's been dull every day here since then apart from a couple of days ago when it was sunny for a while but it never lasted that long even then. It's started feeling quite cold inside again with the lack of sun lately.

Just watched the Meto 10 day trend. Talk about a reality check.
Completely watered down version of posts on the MAD thread.

As usual the meto use words ‘chance’ potential’ uncertainty’ blah blah blah

One wonders why they even bother if everyday after day 4 is a ‘chance’ no matter what the weather.

Roll on spring.

A quote from the model thread -  "I remember the days when people wouldn’t give the time of day to the UKMO day 6 chart"

Yeah, the days it's showing mild 😁

Unbelievable - everyone was raving on about the model the other day when it was sticking by cold when the other models had a wobble!

I can see an excuse being manufactured:- the latest solar activity that produced the recent aurorae witnessed further south than normal.

The question I would ask.....If the atmosphere was that sensitive to solar activity  then how does one explain the severe winters of 1916-17, 1928-29, 1946-47 and 1978-79 happening close to solar maximum?

Winter 1946-47 occurred during one of the most active solar maxima of the 20th century.

These flares seem to repeatedly keep happening just as we’re trying to set up a blocked pattern. Perhaps they have minimal effect once already entrenched into a blocked pattern?

I don’t think we understand enough yet.

Excuses, excuses, excuses... We don't understand anything. Ergo, it would have snowed were it not for the sunspots? Meanwhile, we know enough to know that the sunspots buggered the cold snap?

It hasn't happened yet! 😁

For the first time in what seems like months we have had some much needed rain. It was actually quite nice to see (albeit got wet in it)

Hot take but grey skies are about as enjoyable as losing your skin and swimming through an ocean of salt & vinegar, reaching a landmass, only to fall off an edge & landing on a bed of cacti with a pack of hungry hyenas circling.

Think we will struggle to see any meaningful snow down in the SE with 850 hpa temps only -6 to -8 next week and northerly winds..

Well that was one lame winter in my neck of the woods:

- both the snow shield and rain magnet were in full operation. Snow forecasts were often downgraded into nothingness (including one terrible bust right when it was supposed to occur - that really ruined the pre-Christmas period) . Cold rain events on the other hand were modelled to perfection a week out.

- cold air did its best to avoid me whereas warm air from Africa had no problem rushing in and sticking around for a full month (including Christmas and New Year). I had to stay in Slovakia over Christmas but for the first time I was given a great opportunity to go somewhere snowy. Cue the most snowless festive period in living memory where even ski resorts ran dry.

In summary, one decent snow event and lots of mud.

I haven't found this winter to be too arduous to be honest. It's made a nice change not to be battered by low after low, and by and large people have been spared the misery of being flooded out.

At my age, I can take, or leave, snow, as long  as it's dry, then I'm a happy boy.
