5c rainy/drizzly/wet… lovely… can hear an owl close by…

Gfs still out on its own… other models having none of it… we’ll see if gfs backs down next couple of days… more than likely…. Think USA cold plunge playing with Gfs output

A little bit on BBC about the lack of winter storms

The UK hasn't seen a single named storm so far this autumn and winter. But why?

Usually when GFS is onto something both the operational and control ensembles show a close similarity, they did so in the December cold spell and at quite an early point too. This time the control run and the other ensembles have consistent diverged from the operational run.

It probably is as you say something to do with the USA cold spell, which as a fast moving system, and probably tricking the GFS operational into making an extreme cold scenario across central and western Europe..

Fascinating.. that means 2022 recorded a lower temperature in Liverpool airport than 1947, as it recorded -7C (19F) in December.

Noticeable how loud and active the birds have become over the last few days- incredibly noisy where I am this morning.

Maybe nature knows something we don't about the next few weeks?

No. If nature did then why allow itself to be damaged by late season frosts?

Sounding a broken record at the moment, another dull drab day with bits and pieces of nuisance rain/drizzle and a stiff wind making for a cold quite miserable feeling day, despite again temps above the normal, static close to 9 degrees for most of the day - still that temp now.

Looking forward to Sunday and the return of the sun after what will have been a very dull week indeed.

Apart from Monday it’s been pretty grim

It's not a scientific opinion- I just thought it was odd how active the birds have become so early on.

To be fair yesterday was worse than today… at least could see the hills and a bit brighter… damp out but okayish…. Hoping for sunshine at weekend and next week… always makes things look a little better 🤞👍👌☀️☀️

Having said that could’ve done without a few peculiarities today… only been back two days and quickly losing faith in humanity 🙈🙈🤣😂

Nice to see GFS wheels have fallen off (completely unreliable output recently for our patch) and decided to align with other models… love to see cold and snowy Synoptics but not out on a limb 🦵 ones…  if it can’t be snow at least sunny ☀️ 👌🤞👍🤞👌

With someone who has a bit of interest in Ornithology I'd say it's pretty normal and bang on time at the start of February, they seem to respond to the slightly longer days. Only a small window in the year when they're not really as active and that's between late Nov and late Jan. We are coming out of the dead of winter now and nature starts to stir a little.

20 years ago, today

Had graupel, sleety showers here that turned increasingly wintry as the afternoon progressed so by evening, there was a covering. Snow showers continued into the early hours.

The Michael Jackson/Martin Bashir interview was shown that night. Funny how that stuck in my head because it coincided with a snowfall.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
