Both skirt through the English Channel with the worst and most impactful weather forecast to be to the south. However, with the increasingly cold Arctic air, either low could help bring wintry conditions to southern England.

Sunday night Gerard - named by Meteo France. Tuesday Fien- named by AEMET Spain

Still nothing from our UK/Met Eireann/ KNMI group

It will feel much colder across the UK and western Europe this week with air from the north. Two named storms will bring rain, sleet and snow as northern Scotland sees snow showers for days.

Looking at "Gerard" it is a nicely developed 977 mb low in the western Channel now, tracking towards Calais. Noting wind gusts to 130 km/hr on Atlantic coast of south Brittany (where temp is 11 C) ... If there were just a touch deeper cold in place over southeast England it could be a widespread snowfall, even so I think it will snow on the Downs and come down in mixed form over parts of greater London, whether any sticks there is questionable given the urban heat island. 10-15 cm potential on higher ground in Surrey and Sussex, 5-10 cm could be left over for some higher portions of Kent and hilly areas north of London also. The late overnight arrival of the precip combined with evaporative cooling gives some hope of a snowy morning surprise for some.

The later storm looks like being mostly a winter storm for northern Spain and the Pyrenees mid-week but early stages of it could clip portions of southwest Ireland Monday night.

Lovely signature on the radar overnight from the low Gerard.

Wind, snow and ice warnings for France overnight and on Monday.

SPain has warnings for wind, snow, extreme coastal conditions in the far NE, near Bilbao and San Sebastian, large dangerous waves.

Portugal has warnings for wind, snow and coastal event, more wild waves Lisbon northwards on the Atlantic coast.
