I know that we are in the depths of winter right now, but I believe it's never too early to start discussing the next season. When do you estimate to be the first 20°C day of 2023? I feel that it will be a little late this year and am going for 30th April.

I think it’s going to be an early one, around March 24th, with a few days leading up to it. This will be the first warm spell of the year,  but like 2021 we will have a long wait until it hits 21c again. Late May before we have a proper warm up.

I'm thinking end of March beginning of April around Easter time.

And a possible first blast of summer warmth to follow in the weeks ahead

With southern Europe being so warm therell be an unusual pattern in mid March where a very late beast from the east meets an early spanish plume. Temperature on the 15th will be -18..3c at Sennybridge, but as early as the 17th will have shot up to 23.2C at Heathrow, with widespread thundersnow giving the heaviest snowfalls since 2010 in the south, before a very rapid thaw. 1947 style flooding will unfortunately ensue though.

Probably around the 8th April but I reckon we’ll have a few high teens days before that

    April 2.

(A bit of a random date. There seem to be indications of a possible mild February according to the models, and mild Februaries tend to be followed by mild Marches - though generally March does not reach 20C most years so I'm guessing March will max out at around 18C or so. So I'll just go a little way into April. But then there will be one of those sudden northerly plunges a day or two later, and we'll have our biggest snowfall of the 'winter' on April 5. In fact my gut feeling for the coming months is mild Feb/March but then quite a few northerlies in April, so relatively cool for recent years).

It would have to be a very cool April indeed to not reach 20C at all these days, though.

(I wonder when the last year to not reach 20c by the end of April was? My instinctive thought was 2012, but March was as unusually dry and warm as April was cold and wet!)

Thank you S.S.; memories of Old Moore's Almanack came flooding back then.

I'll go for the Ides of March ( Wednesday 15 March).

Whats the earliest date we hit a 20C? I'm going for a mid April heatwave not just 20C but 30C on the 16th.
