If you have photos of official weather enclosures around the British Isles, do share. It would be good to see what these familiar names actually look like, on the ground. Their setting and landscape.

Some send observations hourly, a few times a day, or daily. Others the data is only collected each month, hence the delays for record temps in summer.

There are the official Met Office/RAF observation sites and volunteers who send in Met Office data from sites that were once known as Health resorts. 09Z data comes from some of those now. Include it's name and location/county.

My local official weather station is Kenley, it's an airfield on the plateau of the North Downs at 170m asl on the southern edge of London, it's still owned by the RAF and was once a strategic airfield for the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War and the RAF in the Second World War. Now it is used mostly for launching and landing gliders, when the airfield is not being used, the general public can walk up and down the runways.

Nunraw Abbey , East Lothian (Sancta Maria Abbey) - readings are taken each day but a provisional overnight highest min. was discounted last summer by the Met Office with conditions not being suitable.

It did receive a huge amount of snow in 2010

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
