Summer8906 September is turning out to be quite a good month after a dire start (Except the random warn and sunny day on the 6th). The main problem for this weekend is further showers from the Easterly, but after that it will be Northerly for a while, brinigng perhaps sunshine with average days and cold nights. Hoping when the Atlantic kicks in, its not a cyclonic one (Preferably similar coditions to Friday and Saturday just gone)

StretfordEnd1996 I agree a summer that I'll struggle to remember in years to come. Can't think of anything interesting about it, perpetually cloudy, often wet with temps in the 17-22 degree range. We didn't I believe record 25 degrees once.

That's what I thought early in the week, sadly decent weather next week seems to be out of the window with the outlook ranging from moderately poor (GFS 00z) to dire (GFS 12z). If correct I suspect this will be one of the poorest Septembers of the 21st century, 2 days of northerly and 7 fine days does not make a good month. Bit like a September version of August 2020 or July 2021, perhaps.

Unsurprisingly Spring 2024! Not warm but not cold either. Just lots of mild, dull and wet weather. How it ended up being the warmest spring on record I don’t know!

March 2024 - A lot of overcast/wet days around 9/10°C, only a few mild sunny days.

April 2024 - Mild, dull and wet during the first half, temps around 12-15°C. Sunny and dry but cooler second half, temps around 9-12°C. So no warm and sunny days whatsoever.

May 2024 - A few warm sunny days during the first half but mostly just a lot of overcast/wet days. A lot of boring cloudy days around 17°C, and mild nights.

December 2024 - Only remember one sunny day, the rest of the month was just overcast and 4-8°C.

Winter 2023/2024 - Extremely wet and extremely dull and very mild.

July and August 2023 - Very wet and dull in July, and a lot of cloudy days around 17°C in both months.

July 2023 to May 2024 - Just a terrible and boring spell of weather in general, very wet, very dull but also very mild.

Summer 2024 - Very little heat and not much warmth either. A cool and cloudy summer overall.

Spring 2022 - Not many cold days but not many warm days either. I don’t think one day reached 20°C here. Just persistently mild with a lot of average/mild days in the low to mid teens. Plenty of sunshine and dry weather though. A very usable and quite pleasant spring.

August 2021 - A lot of quiet benign weather, a lot of fairly cool and dull days around 16-19°C.

November 2020 - Mild, dry and cloudy. Not a lot going on.

July 2020 - Persistently cool with frequent light to moderate rainfall but I don’t remember any heavy rain. Almost completely devoid of warmth with the temperature not even reaching 20°C until the final two days here. Temperatures were just consistently in the teens all month.

November 2019 - Just a lot of chilly overcast days and cold wet days with lots of cold rain.

August 2018 -  A lot of overcast humid days in the high teens and low 20’s. A dry month overall but a lot of days with small amounts of rainfall making it feel wetter. Felt very underwhelming especially after the hot July.

March 2018 - The first day or two was exceptionally cold but after that it was just dull and still relatively cold for most of the rest of the month. It was a delayed start to spring that year.

October 2017 - Very mild, very dull and also wetter than average here. Just a lot of mild, humid overcast days with temps in the mid teens. Only remember two sunny days. Ex-hurricane Ophelia was very interesting though.

December 2016 and January 2017 - Very calm and benign. A lot of dry, overcast days around 6-9°C.

November and December 2015 - Very mild, very gloomy and very wet months. It was either 11°C, overcast and dry or 11°C, overcast and raining.

Summer 2015 - Almost devoid of heat apart from a few days in late June and early July.

Winter 2014/15 - Very average winter - not particularly mild, but not particularly cold either.

September 2013 - A lot of overcast days.

Summer 2011 - A benign summer. Quite cool with very little heat.

August 2008 and 2011 - Very cloudy months with barely any warmth or heat.

so presumably a belt somewhere between your location and mine it was cloudy, mild and nondescript.

Yes, I remember there were a lot of dry, benign and cloudy days here around the middle of January 2017, with highs of around 6-7°C by day, and not much colder at night. There were some sunny and frosty days here too though, particularly at the start of the month.

I didn't mind this Winter too much especially after the deluge of the previous one - a colder spell just after the festive period and two separate typical N'ly blasts mid Jan/late Jan into early Feb.

Nowt else much to speak of though I guess.

August 2021 in Lincoln - dry but very dull, especially during the anticyclonic spell at the end. I remember thinking that "flat" was an accurate description of both the weather and my life/mental state that month. I also agree with November 2020.

Large parts of 2002 and also 2024. I wouldn't call summer 2024 a "bad" summer as there was a fair amount of usable weather, but it was very boring, fairly cool and cloudy, not much happened, only one day with thunder.

I used to have a couple of 1998 months in there - I found August 1998 similarly boring up in Tyneside, where it was quite dry but rather cool and cloudy, but that was location dependent, it was a very different month further south, e.g. 260+ hours of sunshine in London, and Waddington had a respectable 206 hours. Overall, as far as boring Augusts go, 1998 was easily surpassed by both 2021 and 2024.

I also used to think of February 1998 as "boring", but I've reassessed that considerably as the years have gone by. Although it wasn't as sunny in Tyneside as further south, it was in many ways a remarkable month, that very warm sunny day on the 13th, and remarkably it started and ended with snow. Overall, 1998 does go down as one of the more boring years that I've lived through, but not at the same level as 2002 or 2024.

As far as mild and forgettable Februarys go, I nominate 2011 and 2024 - I don't remember much of note from those two.

March 2000 is another month from my childhood that springs to mind. I remember a lot of mild dull dry weather but a handful of very sunny days which raised the month's overall sunshine total a bit above average, and not much happened.

I'm surprised to see winter 2014/15 mentioned although of course we all have our different preferences and perspectives. I quite enjoyed that winter for its high frequency of polar maritime air masses and days of sunshine mixed with wintry showers, there were some snow events on Boxing Day and around 14 and 29 January and early February, and a few wind storms e.g. on 14/15 January.

Winter 1991/92 was just before I started routinely making a note of the weather but I'm sure that had I been a couple of years older it would easily have qualified, especially January 1992. December 1991 at least had some freezing fog events and a brief snowy NW'ly on the 20th.

Months from memory  Bear in mind my definition of boring doesn’t mean I hated the month, but just that it was notable for not being a stand out in terms of variability.

April 2014 - Exceptionally warm but pretty much lacking anything notable from memory. I don’t think there were any exceptionally warm days and it wasn’t overly dry. May have been just a lack of frost.

December 2016 - Very dry but very mild. I remember November had ended very cold and we even had an ice day locally but then it dissipated. Very mild Christmas.

January 2018 - The only thing I remember about this month is a day of torrential unstoppable rain on the 24th with very low light levels.

December 2018 - One of the worst underhated Decembers. Incredibly mild.

March 2019 - I don’t remember anything notable about this month at all.

December 2019 - Basically a toned down version of the previous year. A frosty start then just mild and wet.

November 2022 - It was just abnormally mild and wet. The lack of colour and leaf fall was remarkable.

April 2023 - A sort of wet and dull month with a lack of extremes of temperature.

December 2023 - With no snow here the month was basically endlessly grey and remarkably mild at times.

February 2024 - One of the freakiest mild winter months I’ve experienced but not in a spring like way. Just lots of weirdly warm rain.

March 2024 - Nothing of note to speak of just dull, wet and mild.

December 2024 - The northeasterly got watered down so much instead of wintry showers it was just a grey northeasterly gale with 6C temperatures. Not a single frost all month.

East Lancs Rain March 2022 was a cracking month in most areas for sunshine especially in the north and west where it was record breaking sunny. Had very mild maxima but minima was often close or even slightly below average. Don’t think we could’ve got a better March. Even April 2022 was generally pleasantly mild and sunny. Definitely a good spring minus the second half of May which was awful. Definitely agree it was a very useable spring but I wouldn’t have said it was a boring season. We had some lovely spring warmth in the second half on March, last week in April and in the first half of May without getting too warm.

LetItSnow April 2014 was actually quite a wet month here but very mild. We had some very pleasant weather at times but from memory it was quite dull and wet. Remember some very mild nights I don’t think we had a frost either.
