Think worryingly we may well see last minute upgrades to Storm Eowyn as it develops and moves towards us. Impacts may well be higher than previous storms so far this season as the peak of the storm looks like hitting on a weekday daytime.

Meanwhile there's whiteout conditions in parts of N Florida utter madness! 😳❄️🥶

Joe Snow just looking at an airport's observations in the the panhandle called Crestview. Currently heavy snow and freezing fog and the temp has dropped through the daytime stayed below zero🥶🥶🥶🥶. Up to 7 inches of snow expected so over half a foot. ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Question for Eowyn will be how far south an Amber Warning is given. Lancs & Cumbria most definitely will be in one given current forecast track. Although given time of day I wouldn't be surprised if the whole region is under an Amber Warning but perhaps two different types to highlight the higher impacts further north. NI under the MO and Ireland under their Met Service may well go Red.

I wouldn't be to surprised at a large red warning area, especially for Ireland but maybe other areas. This is hitting Friday daytime, so impacts will be much more risky

Can't sleep so thought I'd look at the charts. Not great is it? Icelandic low, SW wind blowtorch for us but at least it'll be mild?!

Later in the run cold air really starting to try and get into the SE Mediterranean around the Euro high. No doubt Greece will get it's "rare" massive annual snow storm before winter is out. Whilst we are wondering how the hell we join in on that.

Good Morning. Fog warning flashed up on my phone, looks a bit misty out.  Had rain in the night, current (5.45) temp 4°C but it feels colder outside.  Very wet tomorrow before Eowyns' arrival.  Weather fascinates me, but I'm not a fan of these deep low storms, strong wind does make me nervous for those at most risk of damaging gusts, especially if you have to go out.  😐

If you read the metoffice text forecast for the region, they appear to  suggest gales on coasts only on Friday. I can't see how there won't be gale force gusts inland as well based on the models. Their latest forecast seems to be downplaying this somewhat.

Not specifically but I imagine the IOM ferries from Liverpool will be affected.

Another calm morning here, the calm before the storm. A bit of mist earlier but unsurprisingly not enough to justify a yellow weather warning. I'm wondering whether anywhere in the Region has seen fog. Airports perhaps? The yellow warning is still active for another couple of hours.

Morning all,

I gather the extensive yellow warning for fog may of been a little surplus to requirements for most of the region this morning -

On my journey from home to Leigh, just a few isolated fog patches closer to home, and a slight mist towards Leigh but not enough to reduce visibility, no one had to use their fog lights.

But perhaps elsewhere may of seen some thicker fog.

Still unsure what to expect Friday. N of M62 corridor looks to bare the worst but even S of this it'll still be incredibly windy possibly.

Weather forecast on BBC R4 this morning, the guy hinted that Friday will see a 'very exceptionally dangerous storm' on the way - these are the exact words he used.

Said any yellow warnings would effectively definitely be upgraded.

Haha yes kind of sucks on the hunt for anything notably cold at the moment but still a long way to go.

A handful of models suggest we could see a wintry mix of precipitation for some Sat/Sun.

Iceaxecrampon  Good traditional old links course walney. Played it a few times. Theres a par 3 at the top end of the course near the caravan site that can be anything from an 8 iron to a driver depending on the wind 😀  don't think it'll be busy on Friday though 🤔

Thunder Snow Probably Red Warning for Cumbria/ IOM by this time tomorrow if forecast track remains the same, the current early warning is close to it on the impacts matrix the MO use.

Further south I imagine an updated Amber Warning will probably be issued for much of the rest of the region by this time tomorrow too. Not too sure whether S Manchester & Cheshire will be included within that as we are a touch more sheltered than we were during Darragh but even here topping out at 60mph gusts during Friday morning.

There's no getting away from a potentially very dangerous storm for the IOM, Cumbrian & Lancs coastline, N Lancs into Cumbria for sure. Ireland will be more widely in for a battering from Eowyn. An anxious 24-48hrs or so ahead of storm watching & prep I imagine.
