Rain still absolutely hammering it down outside on the windows, been no let up since about 10pm. Winds gusty but not like they were between 12-2am, which I am glad about! was worse than I expected. 10.3c.

Been a pretty wet and windy night with a few crashes and bangs from things being moved in the garden. Will go out shortly to check around and tidy anything up.

For us, it looks like the worse is over with a very usable dry and sunny day ahead. Further north and over in Ireland however…

Sunday and Monday isn’t looking good for our region. Expecting revised and new weather warnings later.

Stronger wind gusts and heavy rain started around 2:30am here.

SW 15 mph, with constant gusts of 25-32mph, a couple of 38mph gusts.
7.2mm rain

Wind dying down now, just breezy, rain stopped too.

First time for a few weeks, that temp is in double figures.
10.8c now

Afternoon all!

We definitely got off lightly compared to elsewhere, but, the rain last night and into the morning, wow, it hammered it down for hours.

Wind was obviously from a different direction to the past storm and even though it was "weaker", can't say I enjoyed listening to all the weird noises it was creating!

I wonder what the future is looking like with these storms, are they just going to get more and more extreme for us...

Luckily the worst of the storm passed over during the night and today has turned out to be the brightest day of the year so far!

I have to ask, is this conveyer belt of atlantic storms normal for this region every year? I haven't been here long enough to know. It sure aint normal for me!

Maybe its a Devon / Cornwall thing.

What is low pressure? It is a type of weather system which brings cloud, wind and rain to the UK. If the low pressure system is intense enough, it may become a named storm.

Good question. I suppose it's case of what are you used to? If you moved from the Scottish western coast to Exeter, I think you'd find it quite pleasant through the winter. If you lived in East Anglia and moved to Exeter, you would find it fairly wet by comparison.

This recent bout as we know has been caused by the cold air injection deep into the American heartlands, creating a major pressure gradient thus increasing the speed of the Jet stream.

As for this year, has it been bad, personally I don't think so, kinda like middle of the road, apart from the excess of "Dirty HP systems" and their accompanied clag, December was slightly above average rainfall, Jan is still to resolve, but currently below average for around the Dorset area.

Great day for drying washing! Loads of sunshine too!
