Same here.  Fields and lawns still covered by 1 to 2 inches of snow and ice but roads now mostly clear.  Pavements also improving thankfully as they were treacherous this morning with a thin film if water sat on top of the compacted ice.  I nearly went over about a dozen times walking on our street trying to get the dog to the nearest field.

Day time high of 6.8c but it felt pretty chilly chopping wood in the garage for 4 hours.

Although a lover of cold weather, I’m looking forward to a few days less cold to clear the remainder of the snow and we can get back to proper dog walks and taking the baby grandson out in his pram.

99% gone here after a rather mild windy night. Not sorry too see it gone due to it being 99% ice rather than Snow.

Maybe 70% here. Still patches of ice on the paths and the grass has a decent ish cover. Can perhaps just about claim another day of lying snow. Will be gone today bar large piles.

MIKE LEVITT I suppose we knew as soon as we didn't get those colder uppers in from the North East the writing was on the wall for low ground on the east coast, battleground situations pretty much useless here. GFS showing another failed Scandi high in a week or so, in recent years the Scandi high just can't quite influence our weather enough, the cold uppers either go south or north of the UK.

First ice free day at lunchtime.

No too bad, wind SW force 3-4, 8C and some broken sunshine. Normal winter cycling clothes rather than extra layers and a balaclava

Yup mild weather made quick meal of the snow and ice. Some still visible on the moors but that won't last long.

Actually a nice day on the Wolds.

Lunchtime brought 9C, bright sunshine, clear skies and light SW winds force 2-3. Best day since before Xmas for cycling.

However Mrs Mike57 said it was misty in Bridlington this morning, and at I think this was fairly general over the lower ground

Monday had about 80% cover here however melt overnight meant about a 30% cover on Tuesday morning and today it's all gone bar the odd patch where people piled snow.

So out of fairness for my records I'll call Monday since that was the last majority cover making it 9 days cover plus November.

A great winter spell over the past 2 weeks. Still some snow clinging on in the shaded areas of the garden + an overnight frost. I'm not sold on the apparent 'imminent' Atlantic onslaught either next week. Possibilities remain, particularly for us further north with a bit of elevation.

Much colder than expected this morning with a white frost which was still hanging around where the sun hadn't reached at lunchtime.

Lunchtime ride brought 6C and a cloudless sky with a SSW force 1-2 breeze. The only problem, second part of ride aborted as ice hadn't melted, so only 6.5 miles

Crisis on the main model thread so I won't post there. Interest remains for next week though!

adrianh , I'm watching/studying model runs and charts since the early 00s. Fact is nothing has changed since then regarding verification stats at 72h and 96h+ in winter months. It's fun picking up trends and studying potential patterns and that's it.

Verification stats after the hours above increase only when the euro high (or West African anticyclone, depends on how someone is used to call it) dominates the continent in winter and ofc in the summer. Anything else is more platonic than Plato himself.

That said, I'm not disregarding the use of the models but there are 2 things people should know:

1. These models are doing business and there are direct and indirect cash grabs related to them.

2. Anything can change after 92h+ in the blink of an eye under a chaotic system which science constantly tries to understand and "resolve".

I also understand some of the claims I made above are debatable and not popular.

Colder than forecast out there at the moment. Met saying should be 1c but it's almost -1c at -0.8 right now

Possibility of snow grains reading the text for overnight and tomorrow. Dew point is also sub zero out there so you never know.

Hasn't been much above 2c max today but annoyingly the stats say 5c max today but that was midnight last night 😤

1C this morning, but very damp with it and even some drizzle. Feels much colder out than 1C indicates, colder than last weeks minus days.

Bitterly cold the last few days. The kids snowman has actually survived for 2 weeks. Looks like a stormy period coming up, perhaps accompanied with some snow on higher ground.

Two days colder than expected but keeping away from an air frost tonight by the looks of it. Some interesting weather on the way by the looks of things later this week.

Another bitterly cold day, with an overall grey gloom.

Lunchtime ride brought force 2-3 SW winds and temperatures of 3C with 100% cloud. Also very damp. Felt much colder than the 3C would indicate. Full winter riding clothes including balaclava and two layers over the legs.

Friday needs keeping a close eye on, depending on the track of the storm, will certainly be a rough day with the possibility of more to come Sunday...
