All roads around here are flooded this morning which is always a challenge when you have a small car, including the main road from Merstham to Redhill.

Husband took a very long time to get to Heathrow this morning, all the roads were gridlocked; taxi driver said he had never seen anything like it. I assume it was due to flooding as every time I woke up in the night, it was pouring with rain - I have a lamp post that never gets to show me any snow, so rain it is, and my was that some heavy stuff coming down.

Woken at 4am by heavy rain battering the window, continued off and on until late morning then temp plummeted from 5c in one hour from 13c.

17mm all in, saw some stations had much higher totals so not surprised by the reports of gridlock round the southeast

Temps were forecast to be a chilly day tomorrow with highs of just 3c. Thankfully they've looked to have crept up to 7c but still cold for glazers to fit new windows throughout my flat 🥶

Could I have a refund on these temps please? Or at least exchange them for those truly mild ones we had weekend just gone (without the Bert though!)

I joined a presentation given by the met office, ECWMF and the Energy sector yesterday looking at the forecast for this Winter.

There is fairly strong agreement across all models for a similar set up. So for December there is a greater than average chance of high pressure over or to the west of the UK drawing in NW or Northerly winds, meaning it might be a slightly cooler but drier than average month. For Jan & Feb though it is back to a +NAO, westerly QBO and a westerly / zonal flow,  with slightly above average temperatures and rainfall, which im sure some will not be welcome in some places. For those on the MOD channel the Polar Vortex is predicted (as best as they can) to be fairly strong and stable out to at least April, so a low likelihood of a sudden stratespheric warming event. The Polar vortex prediction though comes with big caveats as modelling it is extremely dfficult so its "as best a prediction" as they can offer.

As usual , slightly above average temps doesn't preclude cold spells, but a prolonged period i the deep freeze aka 1947/1963 is not on the cards.

Snowangel-MK thanks. Currently have the worst sore throat I've ever known and a hacking cough. Absolutely nothing I can take for it either as I'm pregnant. The paracetamol and honey and lemon tea isn't cutting it 😭

Had some icy rain this evening. Could definitely feel ice in it as it hit my skin.
