A very wet and windy morning in Surbiton; some of the wind gusts in the night were loud and my son thought one of them really rattled his room. Over lunchtime the rain cleared and sky brightened, so we went out for a walk and were greeted by a very cold breeze which cuts straight through you. It's calm again now, with a few gusts and a bit of rain putting in an appearance. Looking at the radar, the next band is slowly incoming from the north west as the centre of the system moves south and east.

Oh yes, and our barbecue got knocked over in the wind!

Starting to get very stormy out here. Last few gusts have shaken my house.  Getting a fire prepared for a cosy night in with a curry already ordered.

Hunker down and be safe everybody.

Hope everyone is okay and no storm damage ?

Seems to be getting worse here but we are thankfully so far unscathed by Darragh, although  I don’t ever remember having such fierce winds for this length of time.  The longevity of Storm Darragh is going to make it most memorable, as we head into a second windy night with yellow warnings still in place until 6am tomorrow morning.

Yes it's seems to have gotten a bit rougher now.

Poor pony had to stay in all day..

He will be out tomorrow with his rain coat on though..

He hates being in.

snowblind oh no 😟 that’s not good sorry to hear that - hopefully no more damage over night - the roofers, fencers & tree fellers are going to be making a fortune out of storm Darragh!

The wind is still gusting around 50mph currently here with some persistent heavy rainfall. No sign of it easing yet, the Met office yellow wind warning is in place until 6pm, I have a concert to get to this afternoon 😦

Winder than expected last night and the direction was unusual from the North.  Also, at one point a flash across the sky from (I assume) an electrical cable shorting somewhere nearby.

Reports of trees down overnight from various locations around my town. Yesterday we had a brief electricity cut, but supply was quickly back on. The River Brett running through the town is pretty high this morning. The Environmental Agency have just issued an alert for possible flooding. That's the problem with Suffolk, it doesn't take silly high rainfall levels to cause issues. Totals so far for the Brett catchment area:
Thurs 13.3mm
Fri  2.7mm
Sat 12.1mm

There's a good example this morning of how wind convergence blowing down the North Sea between the UK and Europe generates a streamer of heavy showers. Same for the showers running from Yorkshire down to the South Coast.

Just for contrast this was MK 7 years ago - what a difference in weather conditions to this weekend and I know which I’d prefer - I’ve never liked wind & rain !

Another streamer set up with rain showers again still far too warm for snow despite the n.e wind.

TROY Yes, I was just thinking how ace today would have been for Kent if the air was a little colder - a lively and lengthy shower stream feeding from the NE.

TROY You need to get the air from a proper cold source, unfortunately and not surprisingly eastern Europe and parts of Scandinavia are relatively warm.

OK rain, we get the point. It's not stopped raining for 72 hours! It's filled up an entire industrial sized bucket in our garden!

Lauren surprised there isn't a yellow warning out for rain in parts of Kent.  Some places getting on for an inch of rain in the last few hours on top of saturated ground

Grim is being modest ,what a dire few days I've known it windier I've known it colder and I've known it wetter ,but it's just gruesome, cloud base is ...469 ft and lowering and rising with the cold drizzle .

..

Wrotham transmitter...on a good day ...and today and total eclipse...the last picture sunny side sw ...:(

sorry  the mast itself is 580 ft  so add on 650 odd ft ..makes not a lot of difference it's still gruesome

Morning all

Models look a bit quieter at the moment so I thought I'd share a couple of pics from a visit to Finland last week. According to locals it's a remarkably low amount of snow but still much more than I've seen for many many years down here 😁

Really could do with some gentle warmer weather. Keen to get outside for some gentle exercise as trying to cope with ongoing cycles of chemotherapy is very debilitating.

Having said that a nice dump of snow to look at for a short period would be a pleasant distraction.
