Here we go with a fresh thread for Spring

As we now enter Spring, I just wanted to recap on 'Winter 23/24'

• Worst winter for snow and cold since 2013/14. It was not a snowless winter, thanks to the early December cold spell, which gave settling snow, but given the expectation from many that this would be the best winter since 2012/13, it really was shockingly bad.
• At least I've learnt that the Met Office long range written forecasts can be just as accurate as the CFS  
• Also think the ECMWF has been disappointing this season with the GFS being surprisingly decent

Heavy rain here and temp of 3.2'c , DP of 3.2'c .... so no snow for us in this snowless winter

 Midlander glad some of you had snow, here we had zero snow, which is extremely sad tbh

Very tenuous sleet on the way in to work this morning about an hour ago, but barely. I think what we had this morning was the definition of 'cold rain'...!

Yep, very similar here. The only time I saw snow on the ground was for a brief period overnight in that December spell. Long gone by the morning and never returned. For myself I didn't expect anything much this winter, but I hoped for at least two or three reasonably snowy days. Nothing even close.

And then I get up this morning and it's throwing it down with cold (maybe very slightly sleety, couldn't be bothered to check!) rain at 1.9 °C. Please can we have a run of nice dry 15 °C days now, O Weather Gods? Ta.

 davehsug Was turning to proper snow in Longton and Fenton. Got to work in Shelton and it's just pouring with rain.

There was snow on the tops of cars and bins earlier this morning at a guess 6am ish.  Sleety stuff atm here by the hospital

GFS shows further wintry interest through the weekend.

All models bring through showery rain/sleet/snow around the centre of the low tomorrow through the Midlands. Looking at the data - dew points hovering between 0-1C will likely mean sleet/snow in heavier bursts 100m+. Generally snow anywhere 200m+ looking at the freezing level. Looking like mostly rain below 100m.

Unlikely any settling snow will last below 300m. Can't rule out temporary accumulations if precipitation is heavy enough but ultimately it will be another dreary damp day for most. 

GFS well out on it's own with the band of snow for Sunday.

Was sleeting a bit here too, wonder if they will start to turn more wintry if they continue pushing in this evening as temps fall.

April showers have certainly arrived very early today! Classic sunshine and (hail) showers type of day!

it’s ok the high winds have brought enough branches down for me to build a family shack

Might need to put some insulation in through the warm months, as you never know next winter could be the one (again)
