 ANYWEATHER

You try telling that to the people in Wales..It certainly wasn t normal..November 2021 storm wasn t nornal either..

What was so unusual about this storm was the strange powerful wind direction being a NWly or N in alot of places and how long this one lasted..

ANYWEATHER What's wrong with flood barriers? At least in Bewdley, they are overwhelmingly popular. I remember the pre-barrier 2000 floods and they were utterly miserable. Now, it's true the works on the Wribbenhall (east) bank are taking a long time and causing traffic jams on the bypass, but you still don't hear people saying they shouldn't have started.

And no, not a normal wind storm for here, though again I can't speak for anywhere I haven't been. Maybe only a couple in the last decade here with this level of damage.

Stats to show this wasn't really a typical windstorm, even here where the winds aren't as strong as more exposed areas.

No, definitely not a "normal" storm. Just the longevity saw to that. Not been out since Friday, but even in my very limited area, we have fence panels blown out and damaged on one side, and on the other, almost total destruction of a gazebo/hut, with the plastic roof gone and supports broken. That's 2/3 of easily visible neighbours suffering damage.

Well guys after the excitement of the earlier November snow I certainly don't want to relive this weekend in a hurry.

We have been battered. No other word for it. Left me with roof damage, damaged Christmas lights and our mature bushes and hedges destroyed in parts.weve had intermittent power for 48 hours and have to say the winds are really only just easing off.

Exhausted is the word after what has been a really awful weekend.

Another unpleasant day radar shows some of us are in a line of showery rain off the N.sea.

Feeling raw as well but at least the wind has dropped.

AltonMatthew Horrible, sorry to hear it mate. Along with flooding, I do think that windstorms are really destructive and expensive, even though it's 'noteworthy' weather it's not at all enjoyable in my view. Hope that you and yours recover soon.

Sadly these could become all too common now. Trees are weakened across the country so another ‘50-60mph gusts’ storm will wreak havoc. Sadly you wouldnt bet against it this winter. Outlook remains mobile and some deep lows being progged towards christmas.

I think its a case of avoid the roads if it happens again, not worth the risk. Tragic what happened to that chap in Erdington but it really could be any of us.

yeah, and a lot on here like that weather, it's vile crap vomit stuff, sometimes I feel I'm in the minority wanting 'boring' weather, very similar to what this EC 12Z is showing

I remember Atlantic 252 give me anticyclonic stuff over the big storms anyday. Absolutely atrocious. The land needs to heal. If its not a cold flow then something seasonal (preferably with some sunshine at times) would be nice

shunthebartlett92 Yep...warmer. Wetter. Stormier. Teleconnections becoming increasingly unreliable. The old 'certainties' no more. That's what it feels as though the future is, and to some extent, what we've already got. For the most part, it is indeed vile...it's amazing how much it's all changed over my lifetime. I know that a human lifetime is a speck of sand in an enormous beach (as it were!), but all I can do is speak from experience, and the UK climate has changed a lot in my time...a friend said to me the other day that it's more like a tropical island now! I don't know about that, but I got his gist...

Although the last couple of days have not been overly cold, the wind chill has been pretty bitter and have worn a hat and gloves for the first time in ages!

 Don

Just been out for my morning walk and it does feel bitter in that east wind.

It may say 6c on the thermometer but it feels a lot colder.

Woolly hat and gloves fore too Don.

I can second that Phil..

Went for a walk to the local park and hand fed a normally very aggressive male swan in front of his 4 cygnets and his missus...... they wouldn't do the same however.

Had on 5 layers in the end to keep the cold out, together with thick gloves and a woollen hat. You wouldn't believe that it is a mild winter!!!

SollyOlly Well as far as I'm concerned,  the weather is just as unreliable now as it was when I was a child, the UK has always had a changeable climate, that's why it's a hot topic of conversation,  anyone says different well I don't agree. I've got a book on British weather stretching over 100 years ,and too say that the weather has completely changed in this country ,is complete rubbish. ...😯

They've always been somewhat (but not completely) unreliable especially the further out you go from present. They also weren't as known 50/60 years ago. Perhaps they have become a bit more unreliable given warming, but more research is needed into that imo.

The MJO was discovered in 1971, and things like the AAM / GSDM didn't become more known in the weather community until around the late 90s or even through the 2000s. Only from the 1980s onwards did ENSO become more known.

Cold and grey and murky and drizzly here. Not my favourite weather type, though like Atlantic 252 I think I do want some quieter weather for a bit after last weekend's "exciting" times... just wish there was more (any) sunshine!

Anyone any stats on sunlight since the start of Nov? Getting pretty dire now! May look at supplements.

Also appreciate this post may look a bit double standards after saying i prefer anticyclonic conditions! A bit further north would work a treat
