I really want this month to come to an end now, the forecast is rubbish and it would be nice to have slightly longer days.

2 degrees and heavy rain in Belper this morning. Surely snow over the peak district plateau?

On a side note .....I think there would be legs in a régional group specifically for the peak district? Thoughts?

Current MO forecast has peak wind gusts here of 59mph. 1mph off the 60mph wind gust recorded last month during Storm Darragh

The storm last month only managed to produce a maximum gust of 52mph locally, so it is possible that we will exceed that on Friday, probably not by much.

I wonder how many trees we'll see down. I'm hoping most of the weak ones were already accounted for by Darragh, but of course there'll be some that were weakened then but not quite uprooted. I'm glad (from a purely regional POV) we're not in the red warning area of course, and at least the worst of the winds aren't forecast to continue for 18 hours plus as happened with Darragh.

Really is turning into a rotten season storm wise. Is this now the new norm? Frightening times ahead if so, thank god we are inland! Heading to NW wales later so expect some very lively weather. Stocking up on supplies for sure and wont be heading out tomorrow until much later

Might be the way the sun rays are hitting the rain but looks like sleet in Crewe

shunthebartlett92 Definitely agree. Windstorms are one of my least favourite weather types, and this season feels like it's been more severe than for a long time. Our house sale has now been agreed, so that last thing I want is storm damage now...! It's bin collection day here tomorrow, so I expect there'll be havoc with bins getting blown about and over...!

SollyOlly looks fairly manageable in the west mids thankfully! Doesnt help with trees already weakened by prior storms. Ill try and leave my driving to daylight where possible

Yes, horrible weather, well and truly locked into this pattern now with stubborn high pressure to the south.

Not too bad around here. A couple of wheelie bins on their sides, one or two fence panels down, but that's all. Despite the wind, the milder temperatures and sunshine made it feel quite nice out this afternoon.

Yep very dry air. Humidity dropped to 44% after midday, lowest i've recorded in January since setting up the station in June 2020. Church Lawford nearby dropped to 41%, unsure on humidity records there. Typically humidity won't go under 60-55% in a typical January!

Even though it is milder, the wind chill was still noticeable, but nice to see some brightness and all that anticyclonic gloom blown away!

At 7pm my current temps are 6.1c and Dps +1.2c

Apparently we’ve got a Yellow warning in place for ice overnight 🤭

Yep with the very dry air in place, and after the mini cold front front that went through overnight, the temp did indeed start to fall overnight.

I clocked  +1.5C at 05:00 and it had dropped to -1.8C at 08:30, with a widespread frost.

It is now rising at +2.0C at 10:15.

If we have colder uppers for later on we may see a few flakes, especially as GFS is indicating we get a secondary low scooting across us on monday morning.
