shunthebartlett92 Indeed! I'm counting my blessings atm, we've got our house on the market an have viewings today...obviously, everything looks better in the sunshine! I do love this weather though. Crisp, cold, sunny October of 'yesteryear' would be most welcome...!

No frost here last night as cloud moved down the Cheshire gap in the middle of the night.

This cloud dispersed at daybreak and the temp then dropped to 3.7C, an hour later.

Metwatch  I’ve been looking at the restrictions regarding airports

My beloved Elmdon park is far too close….so I’m buggered methinks

SollyOlly are you moving on from Gods country? Or just looking at a localish move.

On a side note: Was toying with going to Barmouth for a couple of days today but the weather really looks rotten. Hoping to get a full week up there in Oct/Nov

Ah yeah good point, forgot Solihull was that close to BHX, no chance flying around there sadly.

Although checking the DJI zone map thing and also no fly zone map, you could probably manage flying in the south of Solihull, maybe at Hillfield Nature Reserve / Brueton Park.

shunthebartlett92 ha ha, good point! Well, we've had an offer accepted in Tanworth-in-Arden...which seems really lovely. It has a B postcode, but the Council Tax is Stratford-upon-Avon District Council...much cheaper! But we haven't sold our property yet, so we'll see how it goes. I am hoping that a more rural area in Tanworth has it's own micro-climate, less heat-island effect and better cool weather, and that we actually get some cold in the winter! But who knows, many a slip between cup and lip...I'm really keen to move before Xmas, but it's not solely in my hands, of course.

SollyOlly Nick Drakes home village! Always seems a fairly peaceful (and also affluent) area when i go past Henley and towards Stratford. Good choice i would think

Yet more wet weather, and forecast to be on and off all day. This September must be record breaking?

As we turn the Calendar though things are looking drier

Fourth wettest September on record now, perhaps may climb to third place after today.

Metwatch I can't go back as far as you but here it's currently the 4th wettest September since 1963. The total up to 0900 today is 163.2 mm. Quite likely to end up as the wettest on my records as it's been raining all day and plenty more to come by the look of the radar.

The wetter ones are;

1994   173.0 mm

1981   168.2 mm

1965   165.8 mm

Not a particularly wet day locally (4mm), significantly less rainfall than surrounding areas. From what I've observed, the Cotswolds being to the south of us leads to much of the rain dissipating by the time it reaches us (the 'rain shadow' effect).

More rain which wasn't forecast yesterday.

On GMB this morning around (6.20am) they had a live forecast which showed rain around our area all day today, and then they went to local weather which showed no rain at all (must have been recorded yesterday)
They have had a real problem with short term forecasting in recent weeks.

The BBC was exactly the same today also. I woke up early, checked, and thought that a game of golf was called for. As I get dressed at 08:00. I looked out the window and it had started raining. Its not stopped since.

I than checked weather apps and most of them were also showing mainly dry, but one (the weather channel) had updated, and showed rain until 5 this evening.  They all now show rain for most of the day.

Ignore the news media weather forecasts  - they are based upon out of date information, for cost saving reasons..

I guess when there is 'stabilty' in the atmosphere (75% of the time?) they will be ok, but boy o boy we do not seem to have  that at the moment, and last night's data is not happening.

The MetO and others really do need to get a handle on short-term rain forecasts, and fast. Yes it's tricky, but the MetO is not just some guy in his shed. Yeah, this is my pet grumble I know, but stuff like today doesn't help anyone's confidence in the forecasts. If they're this inaccurate with lead times as short as the night before, people really are going to ask what the point is. The quite strong suggestion a few weeks ago was that at least a fair chunk of September would be calm and dry. Instead some locations in our region have seen huge rainfall totals for Sept, over 250% of the long-term average. (See nuts' post in the other thread in this group.)
