Another sunless day today, and wind and rain forecast for the weekend here. It will be very interesting to see what the month end totals are for my neck of the woods. I would not be too surprised if it turns out to be the dullest November on record as even those days forecast to be sunny had quite a bit of cloud and so not unbroken sunshine.

We actually enjoyed a mostly sunny day here yesterday although the wind was bitingly cold.

Today it is cold and cloudy thus far after a sharpish frost early on.

Can not get over how dull this November has been. We hardly even managed to get much sun out of this "cold & crisp" blip either which has been disappointingly overcast down here. Zero sun yesterday & looks like zero sun today too. I have absolutely hated this November both for weather reasons & personal reasons.

SunSean Hello Sean. You might get some brighter weather today as the sun has now just started to come out here and it looks as though it could be heading your way too. It will be interesting to know at the end of the month if anyone living in our area who keeps weather records can let us know how this month has compared with those of previous years and if the record for lack of sunshine has been broken. I hope your "personal reasons" have now resolved themselves.

Only somewhat duller than normal overall here I suspect, and likely less dull relative to normal compared to October which really was desperate here, or at least it seemed it.

It was very cloudy up to the 9th but then some sunshine appeared on the 10th and since then there has been sun from time to time.

Looks like five consecutive days with little or no sun coming up Sat-Wed though GFS 00z offering the possibility of more sunshine at the very end of the month, particularly Thursday and Friday before the high has a chance to cloud/fog up.

claret047 Thanks, a bit of sun breaking through here and there now. Unfortunately not, its an autoimmune disease and the meds aren't doing much. Hoping to be able to enjoy Christmas at least somewhat 🙏

November finished on 57.8 hours of sun (~89% of average) here.

First 10 days recorded: 0.9 hours (First 9 days had 0.0 hours)

1st half: 14.4 hours

2nd half: 43.4 hours

A decent recovery attempt to try to get to average sunshine last month I'd say but still couldn't balance out the very dull first 10-15 days.

Autumn 2024 sunshine: 257.4 hours, (~85% of the average) quite poor.

37.8 hrs here in November which is 75% of average and continues the run of duller than average months since January. This year will undoubtedly be the dullest year since I began continuous sunshine records in 2000.

Should also add, November was the dullest since 2015, and autumn dullest since 2001.

November 2024 sunshine 🌞 🌧☁️

Most places had similar amounts although the North East got the best of the sun.

Not a month I'll remember fondly. I'm sure December will as usual, have exceptionally low totals.

*Stormforce~beka* If Manston had stopped recording sunshine, which I initially thought, I would have stopped because it's an important area to lose but they came back online. Lost another station though now, Lyneham- although not as important but still annoying.

Up to 1417 hours here so far in 2024. Its certain to be the dullest since since 2002 (1458 hours), but possibly since 1998 (1334 hours).

Since 2002, only 2004, 2012 and 2024 have recorded less than the current 1991-2020 average (1599 hours), so its definitely an unusually dull year.

Only 3 out of the last 21 months have recorded more than 110% of sunshine. Coincidentally that's tied with the record of March 1992 - November 1993.

This year must be the dullest for decades round here

Halfway through December and just 7.4 hrs of sunshine here so far, 3.2 hrs of that yesterday. The average for the first 15 days of the month is 22.3 hrs.

1st-15th December sunshine table-

Once again, zero point in uploading the table yet since there hasn't really been any sunshine so I will just wait until the months end. What an unbelievably dull, monotonous & horrific year for sunshine!!!

reef speaks volumes that its far easier for us to get a duller than average year than a sunnier than average one. Especially a notably sunny one (more than 110%).

A shocking 16.4 hours of sun so far this month here, makes November just gone feel sunny despite having a longer consecutive spell of no sun but the second half did well to try to recover that month. The dullest December here is apparantly 1902 with 6.3 hours of sunshine but not sure how accurate that is being so far back...

These are some of the dullest Decembers for the Midlands region via Starlings Roost Weather. 2021 and 2023 are the only ones so far this century, but 2024 will likely join here!
