So July is officially over where would everyone rank it could it arguably be the second best of the decade so far ( which really isn’t saying much) the biggest debate is was it worst or better then 2021 cos obviously 2022 was miles better but I would say 2024 was much better then 2020 or 2023 but it’s debatable if it’s better or worst then 2021 what does everyone else think?

Easily the worst for my area, if only for the low temperatures for the most part, and the constant cloud cover. It's meant that even when we've had dry evenings it's not been comfortable outside.

Summerlover2006 I'd rank them the following:

July 2022

July 2024

July 2021

July 2020

July 2023

A very poor decade for Julys so far, once you take out 2022.

July 2021 was slightly warmer, but it was duller and had more rain days (12 in 2021 vs 8 this month).

B87 July 2020 was a tad warmer than this month, drier too. The second half of that July was pretty decent.

Overall I'd rank it in the middle, better than 2023 dry wise and sunshine, but colder slightly.

Best to worse:

2022, 2021, 2024, 2020, 2023.

Here in Estonia July ended up with 1.1C above average temps, above average rainfall (163% of the mean) and below average sunshine (85% of the mean). I wouldn't say it was a bad July as it was a lot warmer than last year and it felt summery most of the time but that sunshine stat is a bit depressing, so I wouldn't say it was a very good month either. Anyway, since 2015 Julys have been mostly poor, only 2018 and 2021 were truly good and the rest have been poor to somewhat alright.

Ranking for this decade from best to worst:

2021

2024, 2022 (2024 was a bit better temperature wise but 2022 was better sunshine wise, so they are roughly equal, maybe 2024 slightly better for the thunderstorms and a warmer mid month period)

2023

2020 ( 2023 and 2020 were almost equally vile but 2020 had a few very cold days that only reached 15-16C and also an autumnal windstorm mid month, so it deserves to be last. 2023 was also an absolute bore though)

Genuinely think late July, August and September are the summer months nowadays. October,  November, December and January autumn, February, March and early April winter may, June and 2/3rds July Spring.

midlandsun If anything summer has extended and I would firmly say first two thirds of Sept is summer alongwith last third of May.

Autumn now extends to mid Dec. Winter truncated to mid Dec to mid Feb. Spring starts late Feb.

April, July, October and January remain the true 4 season months. The others are hybrids of the season before and to follow.

July was equal to the 1991-2020 for temperatures, 105% on rainfall and 92% for sunshine here. It was the very definition of average but was a month of two halves. From the 16th we had no rain at all and every day surpassed 21C.

The less said about the first half, the better!

Rainfall so far for this summer here is on about 90-95mm (depending on stations used) while the summer average is just over 190mm, pretty decent going. Looks like this summer may be the first drier than average season since winter 2022-23!

Metwatch Its slipped under the radar a bit, but it has been quite a dry summer here too so far. We're on 101.2mm compared to the 1991-2020 average of 181.8mm. The rest of August would have to be extremely wet to beat that now. Summer 2023 had 216.6mm for reference.

This is more of a general chat than a moan, so this thread is probably the best place for this.

I am not feeling particularly excited about this upcoming hot day and what the highest temp will be to be honest. Whilst I do like some hot weather in summer and it would be nice to see August have the hottest day of the year for a change, the prospect of a 30+ Celsius day no longer excites me as it doesn't seem to take much effort to achieve these days. Warm records no longer gain my interest either as we have broken so many of them in the last few years. I would like to see some more cold records being broken for a change, during autumn and winter.

Summer almost certain to be drier then average with a dry June and august looking dry as well quite surprising in quite a wet year quite often in wet years 1954, 2008,2012 as examples the summer gets the brunt of the wet weather.
