A rather uneventful week, although ex- Gonzalo did produce some strong and locally damaging winds on Tuesday. Nor did temperatures deviate greatly from the norm, most days were mild, but with a couple of cooler ones in the mix. Rainfall totals were not excessive last week apart from Snowdonia where Capel Curig picked up another 3 inches (75mm) in a what has been a thoroughly wet month for Wales.

Sunday is a very mild and rather windy day, rather cloudy with drizzle in places for West Wales (WW) but dry with a few sunny intervals for the Midlands this afternoon. Highs 14 to 16c. Very mild again tonight, mostly dry the odd spit of drizzle for WW, no lower than 10 or 11c (a typical late October night gets down to around 5c). Quite a deep fetch SW flow brings even milder air on Monday. Plenty of cloud, but a better chance of sunny breaks, especially for the Midlands. Breezy with maxima in the 16 to 18c range for most. Still some bits and pieces of drizzle affecting parts of WW though. Very mild for Monday night with nowhere getting below 10 or 11c and some coastal areas of Wales staying above 13c.

During Tuesday we see a cold front gradually moving down from the NW, however the mostly dry weather hangs on for the Midlands where, given any brightness, the mercury tops 18c. For WW though it clouds over sometime around midday and a band of rain, heavy at times works across late afternoon and evening. In spite of this, very mild for WW too at 15c or so. Due to this rain area being slow moving parts of Wales could pick up 20mm or so. The rain extends to the Midlands during Tuesday night which is mild one except for NW Wales where skies clear. The trough may prove difficult to shift the Midlands on Wednesday, so a wet morning in prospect here, while for WW a ridge gives us a dry and bright but fresher, cooler day. The dry, bright weather should reach the Midlands during the afternoon too. Highs on Wednesday afternoon 11 to 13c. Wednesday night is dry with clear periods and cool, lows 2 to 6c generally, but milder along coasts. Fog may form in places too.

Wednesday's ridge is but a transient feature and for the remainder of the week a large deep Atlantic low controls our weather as it wanders to the south of Iceland. For Thursday cool air resides over much of the UK still and there may be a chilly SE to east breeze ahead of an impending mild incursion. It looks like being a cloudy, murky, cool day with light rain and drizzle on and off, highs perhaps of just 9 to 11c. Friday sees mild, moist south to SW winds flooding over the UK once more and there is the potential of quite a lot of rain for Wales. For the Mildands however most of the rain looks light and patchy for Friday but it should be a largely cloudy day. Highs Friday 13 to 15c. Next weekend and into November.. low pressure in on our doorstep to the NW so a mild and unsettled one seems likely with showers and some longer spells of rain, there is potentially for some strong winds at times too.
