Rural roads here in Mid Suffolk are getting a covering that is not readily melting, despite being gritted - it looks as if the earlier rain has washed off the salt.

Maybe that means there's a 2nd wave of strong winds yet to come through here too, I think this is what a lot of the gust charts where predicting. The sting in the tail so to speak!
Signs that the peak here may have been a few minutes ago.
At least we haven't reached the speeds of the neighbour's built-in weather gauge - at 80mph, their garage clay pantiles peel off and fly down the garden, which has happened three times since we've lived here.

Maybe a freak squall line, the general winds seem to have eased off here in the last hour or so still blustery though. I think Norfolk will be experiencing the worst of it now as the storm passes out into the North-Sea.
I thought that as well but it is still gusting to around 55-60mph and my mean wind speed chart is still rising. Must be near the peak, though.

Just when I thought things might be dying down a bit, we've just had a 65mph gust here in Mid Suffolk. The wind over the living room chimney is howling and the power lines at the front of the house are shrieking.
Strongest winds here for several years - I'm amazed we still have power.

Mid Suffolk - continuous distant thunder some miles to the east.

Mid Suffolk - occasional thunder and lightning to our east for some time, moderate rainfall here. Now some distant lightning flashes and rumbles to the south - Ipswich or thereabouts.
Could be a bit wet at Latitude and the lightning map has some strikes in the general area.

Light to moderate snow here for the last hour. Very small flakes, just starting to settle on our lawn.
Looking a bit bleak in Ipswich:

Near Debenham, a whopping 1cm of snow here from last night's event.

Looking quite calm at the moment but worth another look soon.

55.5mph max gust here so far here in Mid Suffolk, just after 6am. Similar figures to Wattisham so far and still occasionally gusting to 50mph.

Heard a good amount of thunder this afternoon, not seen any flashes though. 29mm of rain since midnight.
Rezillo, you must be near me if you are near Debenham
Can't be far off - I'm a handful of miles west of Debenham.

Took a trip out to Southwold this pm but heavy rain forced us to turn back before we got to Reydon. It was just bucketing down and it didn't seem wise to carry on, with inches of water on the road in just a minute or so of rainfall. The eastern sky as we approached the coast was just black from north to south.

Unbelieveable that the EA's flood warning system is having essential maintenance right now. We must have gone 4 months without a flood warning.
I can only assume that it's overloaded, I suspect heads will roll if it's not up soon.
That particular link gives that message but the site seems to be working ok.

The Norwich market and Millenium Plain webcams are showing a few white areas that weren't there 30 minutes ago but it doesn't look anything much yet.

Apologies if this has been posted before but Hitler's thoughts on the snow in Suffolk gave us a good laugh today.

A look at meteox seems to show a slightly more easterly component to the showers moving off the Netherlands. Will these fizzle out off our coast like their marginally more northeasterly predecessors?

Temperature somewhere between 0 and 1C but there are some light snow flurries here. In fact for a few minutes it has changed to moderately heavy snowfall, but has just stopped as I type this.
Now if someone could remove that precipitation barrier that appears to be in place in the North Sea thirty miles off Yarmouth......

Temperature now falling slightly here to 0C after an earlier rise to 1C.

1C here, light snow flurries, breezy but no obvious thaw. Temperature has fluctuated from 0C to 1C for the last hour or so.

Wind here, a few miles north of Ipswich, gusting from 5 to 20 mph. Because the snow is being blown all over the place, its a bit difficult to measure what's fallen but a sheltered spot in my garden has 2cm in the last 20 minutes.
It's been bucketing down although easing off a little at the moment.

Wattisham a few miles to my SW is gusting to 30mph
I don't think the Ipswich Live wind speed readings are quite on the ball. Apart from today's peak gust on their homepage being clearly out, I've been on the outskirts of Ipswich today and it was a lot windier than 5mph!
