Althorp is delighted to announce that the Olympic Torch will be visiting the Estate on the 2ndJuly and Earl Spencer has the following comment,
"Over the past five centuries my family has welcomed many eminent guests to Althorp - from Nelson, to Churchill, to Mandela. Having the Olympic torch pass through, on its great journey, will be another chapter in the record of this house, as a host to history."

Dunstable Downs
Extensive chalk and grassland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.
Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands.
As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.
The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.
Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire.
The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic.

Floods November 2012
The Ouzel Valley Park has a spacious, open atmosphere with long views. Much of the land is still leased for grazing by Milton Keynes Parks Trust and between the livestock you can still see the remnants of an old field system, the area is dotted with the remains of medieval villages and their associated fish ponds. Some of these villages may have been wiped out by the great plague in 1686 but most were simply abandoned as people moved further from the river to avoid flooding.
