We've got about 2 inches but all the the precipitation is going westwards about 3-5 miles below me now so I think that's it. Still, it's bought it home to me that once the cold's properly here, the snow can really hit the midlands and we've got solid cold for another week now so who knows. This particular heavy precip didn't even show up until 48 hours out so I know it can hit again at any time - regardless of how we haven't been affected by it so far, this is a proper winter and we will all get our snow, I can see it!

P.S. Am a bit drunk on Champagne now - my only sibling (my wonderful sister, Mandy) gave birth to a baby boy today (after a couple of ivf attempts) so I am an aunty for the first and probably only time. I'm on top of the world!!!!!

Well just looked out the window 22.21pm and it is still coming down thick and fast , I must be clinging on to the eastern side of the band by the thread of my teeth then .

  3. it is now true.............on the 2300 met office radar you can quite clearly see the leics/derbys snow shield in action!!!!! this is not funny

However along time ago.......................people use to say about the power station affect................-i.e. ratcliffe (notts) castle donnington (leics) and rugely (staffs) which used to warm the air up. thoughts anyone????

I am seriously gonna throw my toys outta the pram if I don't get at least a sprinkling for this ...ehem..."trough", this cold spell is a joke so far, oh and the last one, it's like a curse, we never used to struggle with getting snow like we have this time.....moan over...(sighs) biggrin.gif

  4. I will crack a strongbow open for you Andy.............you grandparents sound very lucky to have you!! You are a credit to them and to this board!!!

Lets hope we get a bit if snow tonight in leics/derbys just 2cm would be enough for me and my little boy to go sledgin!!

Fingers crossed we should find out very shortly

Thank you mate I appreciate that smile.gif I know I act like a plonker sometimes and i'm usually joking around and trying to be mr comedian but really I don't mean no harm smile.gif Just try and make people laugh, especially with my LE3 snow shield joke and melting Nicks snow with my Cannock and surrounding areas sized hairdryer biggrin.gif

Ahhh dear, I think up some crazy things!

Also... Echobase aka Mark... Thank you aswell smile.gif Will go and check your PM out now.

  5. Good evening all

this is my first post this winter.

What is going on with the weather!!! Im on the south derbys/north west leics border and we seem to have a permanent snow shield around me!!!

Im seriously thinking of setting up Snow Lovers Anomynous!!!

Im interested to know why you think south derbys will miss out tonight?

Taken advice form Andy Leics I have a 15 pack of strongbow for tonight!!!

    Thanks Brian.

And a HNY to you fella.

Just to add more thoughts again, for Notts, Derbys, Leics, Warks and Staffs.

The band of PPN has decayed over the last few hours, however, the decay 'potentially, looks to have at least stalled for now.

For some indication, have a look in the Yorks/Lincs thread.

Notts is perhaps going to fair best from this, however Leics, if the ppn does not decay further, might also get some showers out of this.

Derbys (North) should also do ok, and showers look like they are starting to fill in, however, South Derbys are unlikely to do as well, with still some risk.

Staffs might do ok, but may be a little to far west, whilst Warks may do ok again if ppn continutes, but the further east the better.

Worcs are perhaps in a less favourable position, and whilst Northants too may also be in a similar position, the potential is slightly better.

So in terms of risk, I would say, with the highest risk of snowfall, as follows:

    1. Notts - 50%

    2. North Derbs -45%

    3. North Staffs - 40%

    4. North Leics - 35%

    4. South Derbs - 35%

    6. South Staffs - 30%

    6. South Leics - 30%

    6. North Warks - 30%

    8. North Northants - 25%

    9. South Northants - 20%

    9. South Warks - 20%

    11. Gloucs/Worcs - 15%

Radar as I say, is looking ok...well...at least holding up to some degree.

TV Forecasts are showing a brief spell for the northern parts of the region, but not so for the southern half.

METO Warnings are now downgraded to Icy Patches, so if any snow, expect it to be light.

But, as we saw today, we really just do not know what is going to happen.
