Lol! Actually I am mechanic and a recovery operator. I work either in a workshop that acts like a fridge or under a car or truck at the roadside. Been doing it for roughly 12 years. Don't see why you saw the need to be snarky though, I only expressed my opinion??I guess you havnt spent the last 27 years working outside ,probably pushing a pen in a nice warm office.

At least I'm not the only one. I don't think the love of winter can be pinned down to any specific individual thing. I really enjoy the build up!! For me the build up starts with the Snow and Ice thread!!!LeeB, you're a man after me own heart!

I have to be honest.... From about the middle of March until about half way through August, I stay well clear of the Forums. I hate the Summer and the hot nights that come with it! But once the nights start pulling in, keep my eyes peeled for the resurrection of the Snow and Ice thread. Then I start checking Google for long range winter forecasts. I hate the electric bills during winter, but there is something I absolutely love about going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. All summer I dream about jumping in the car after work starting the engine and rubbing my hands until the heater defrosts the windscreen!! Not long now!
Pretty sad I know!

From MetOfficeStorms on Twitter:
UK weather warnings will be updated this morning. Amber warning area for snow likely to be extended further south and west.
Maybe this ties in with my previous post regarding the fax charts showing the front stalling further west.

Am I right in thinking the latest MetO fax charts show this front coming in stalling further west than initially thought. From an IMBY perspective I hope its right.

Well having stalked the model thread for a while. I'd like to post my thoughts. Unfortunately can't back this up with charts as mobile but...
In recent gfs runs the following seems to of occurred. The 0z places things west only for the 6 z to place them east and then both the 12z and 18z make further westward corrections.
Usually they say to bin the 18z unless it follows the trend, well currently the trend appears to be to correct westward and the 18z seems to follow this so may have some credit.
To sum up.
Although within the reliable time frame I would expect a possible further small shift west.
Please remember I am no expert in fact a complete n00b but just going on trends here.

Morning all. I've been following this disscusion for ages and finally decided to register. In Okehampton we have had a couple cm's of snow through the morning and snow is still lightly falling. I just looked at the MET office surface pressure charts and it shows that the warm front from the continent wont reach us until about miday today. Is there any chance the snow will get heavier and more widespread when the warm front arives.
