  1. Report from mid Kent, 04:11 AM

Just so as you know Im not imagining the thaw:

Just had a look @ weather:

One minute moderate snow, then sleety, then sometimes light rain. Can definitely see laying snow shrinking & paths are beginning to become visible around the edges. Slight melt craters beginning to appear on the grass.

Recently made footsteps in the snow are revealing tarmac underneath (as they melt 1st!)

    Weather station:

    Temp: 1.8 Deg C

    DewPoint: 1.1 Deg C.

    Pressure: falling

    YUK!

Looks like it could be edging se

    says 4.45am

Yep, could be heading down towards the SE, then. Still no sign of anything, as forecast, coming from the South /East.

  2. I'm surprised you're getting sleet and thaw. And that in the first place you only had 4 inches. That's unlucky. We can't be that far away, yet are sorted all round.

Moreover, why is this 'thaw' even happening. According to gfs, we still have -8 air over us, which at night should be more than enough to keep everywhere sub zero. Since when is -8 suddenly a warm sector.

Your guess is a good as mine. Something odd happening. Steve M also earlier reported melt. Its not just me!

Maybe you have so much there, you arent noticing any slight thaw, or perhaps its coming down enough with u to replenish?

    NW radar europe

Thats deffo movin across N sea, but looks to have EA written on it. Aren;t we looking for something to come up from the SE?

  3. Yes I know it's a long way out, but better than nothing there... Will you get clear sky at all tonight? To drop temp again before it might come in?

Good question. I think the remaining cloud cover, with pesky sleety stuff might thwart that, though. Id rather it stopped peein on the (fairly decent) snow cover - its just destroying it slowly but surely. The blanket effect is outwieghing any effects of the PPN, which would need to be heavy snow to counteract the melt @ the mo!

Where are you? Could you put your location in your profile by any chance? smile.gif

Mid kent. God knows I had enough trouble uploading a pic, I'll try witht the profile thing...

  4. Somehow I don't think the radar on raintoday is right, snow keeps appearing out of nowhere. Loads over me but not snowing/sleeting or anything

I thought it was just me! If you ask me, its been playing up all day. Interesting, sum1 slated meto radar (invent) for the same thing, so mebbe there are certain condx where the radar detection is a bit s h i t t y?

Im findin the radars of little use @ the mo. None of them are showing rain/sleet, and thats def the case hr in Mid Kent right now. Its flippin raining on our 4 inches of snow! I can start to see kerbstones again!

  5. not likely to receive more than a few flurries here imo. still maintaining at -0.4 so avoiding the thaw so far..

Well, def, see my last post. Thaw has been on I would say most of the day. Whereas prev, there was enuf sno falling to beat the melt, there isnt any more here in Mid Kent. I think the "!big freeze!" might have peaked, you know!

(Which breaks my heart if it gets the local councils out of trouble for spunking all our council tax away instead of having enuf grit to look after us!)

  6. Urban blown torch firing up in London - now up to 2c (probably only in the very very centre though)

Light snow and 2c temp is not a good recipe if you want a pasting lol wallbash.gif

No it isnt. BTW, in mid Kent here it aint far off 2 deg C!

I would say the melt rate is beating the accuum now, even in this "favoured" position.

IOW, its melting faster than its falling! (Wonders if the warm front has moved over, as forecast, and just isnt causing any noticeable change in PPN, since we have been havng shwrs hr all day anyway!)
