  1. My aunt who's 97 lives in a care home in Teignmouth (she used to live across the Teign in Shaldon). I must take my father who's 94 down to visit his sister for what might be the last time they see each other. Last year we were all set, but there was a massive storm down there so we couldn't go.

Just waiting for some decent spring sunshine and warmth to make the trip. Don't want Dad catching pneumonia as we'll be in a B&B and they're not always nicely heated or cosy.

Shaldon's lovely - my Mum actually lives in the countryside outside Stoke-in-Teignhead, which isn't far from Shaldon. Hope you find a good B & B when you next go - bless your Dad, it'll be lovely for him and his sis to see one another.

    Happy Saturday

    Sue

  2. Chucking it down here. Driving to home town in the west country - Radstock, also home to Gibby - in a min; looks like we will have the wet and windy stuff all day so an interesting drive in store across Salisbury Plain.

Good luck with your travelling today. I'll be following you down the 303 tomorrow as I'm off down to Newton Abbot to stay with my Mum for her 86th birthday. Hoping it won't be quite so blustery and wet tomorrow but as we all know, weather is not in our hands. Just hoping there won't be snowdrifts to negotiate when I come back on Wednesday lol!

  3. Really happy to share some good news with you tonight, as you're such a friendly crowd. My son and daughter finally got confirmation today of a move to a more suitable property, on medical grounds.

Its been a tough few years for them and nice to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

The property is fully adapted to meet my sons needs and is a great relief for us all round, as our present accommodation is totally inappropriate now, as it has internal and external stairs and he has great problems with his balance.

The property is newly built on a nice developement in Chislehurst, in a much nicer area and we will have a brand new shiny Bromley postcode to boot, rather than the old London one. A bonus too, we will be more than double the elevation we have at the moment! (Only joking). Spies some possible snow days! Slightly more awkward journey to work in Croydon but the pros far outweigh the cons

    So we're a really happy household in SE20, tonight!drinks.gif

    Regards,

    Tom.

So glad to hear your good news, Tom and I'd like to wish you and your son and daughter very much happiness for the future.

I always notice your posts because we used to live in Anerley before we came down here to deepest Kent - have got a soft spot for it (Anerley) which might seem a bit peculiar but we had some good times there.

  4. Snow is teasing us here again (between Sittingbourne and Faversham) as it has done all winter through, and I've told it I'm not going to play this time!!! I am refusing to get excited about the possibility of even half a centimetre, and although there have been scattered flakelets fluttering around outside since around 7.15 this morning, I am pretending not to notice in the hope that they will up their game and work harder and produce more and more flakes acute.gif Doesn't seem to be working, though, because there is no sign of anything white outside except my lovely snowdrops. But I am not going to curse the snow, or the weather in general or become despondent because I am not playing the snow-game anymore (who am I kidding?)

  5. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow, John P. I know I do not know you, but, like so many in here, we all care when someone is hurting and going through hard times.

This is a poem I love - you may like it or you may think it's schmalzy, but it's sent with every good wish for strength and comfort.for you and your family.

Here's the poem, don't know who wrote it:

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there, I do not sleep

    I am a 1,000 winds that blow

I am the diamond glints on snow

I am the sun on ripened grain

I am the gentle autumn rain

When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled light

I am the soft star that shines at night

Do not stand at my grave and cry

I am not there; I did not die.

  6. It's been flurrying here - between Sittingbourne and Faversham for about two hours. Dandruff mostly, with the occasional thicker, denser snowflakes to raise hopes and expectations! Nothing's settling though, and I'm just wondering whether the 'flakes' I'm watching now are recycled from earlier, after being blown around and back up they are now coming down again!

Just looked up 'Flurry' in the online dictionary:

    FLURRY - noun.

    1. commotion, stir, bustle, flutter, to-do, excitement, hurry, fuss, disturbance, flap, whirl, furore, ferment, agitation, fluster, ado, tumult There was a flurry of excitement.

    2. burst, spell, bout, outbreak, spurt a flurry of diplomatic activity

    3. gust, shower, gale, swirl, squall, storm A flurry of snowflakes was scudding by the window.

It struck me that this could be a pretty accurate description of the emotions experienced by us all during this past winter as we watch, wait, hope, jump up and down, weep, wail and stamp our feet at the vicissitudes of snow and weather.

    Happy weekend to everyone!

  7. Hi Simon smile.png

I'm new here too and can say that this lot in here are a lovely bunch.

Looking forward to some snow next week smile.png

I'm new too, though been a member for a while, and I think the loving, compassionate spirit in here is uplifting and wonderful. As someone said, the Circle of Life has truly been manifest in the last few days, and the warm caring of so many people is just lovely. Even if we were in the middle of the snowiest, bitterest, freeze-up ever (I wish!) I think everyone in the Netweather Forum would be warm as toast with all the love and kindness.

There, had to say that 'cos it's true.

    Love, Sue

  8. hi chris

    thanks

its true its better to keep busy at present

and the support on here at present has brought a few tears to my eyes

in a nice way as it shows there is still a decent amount of people around still

next few days will be very tough but i know it will get easier

just so you know my father passed away with a big heart attack and i was

    with him at the time

i tried cpr and the paramedics did as well

when he got to hospital in resasitation they could only get a weak

heart beat so me and my other half sat there with him while he died

my father was my dad and my best friend and i will miss him so much

sorry for cluttering the thread but thought it would be nice for everyone to know

the funeral will be sometime next week and hopefully things will get easier with time

    john x

Although your heart is breaking at the moment, there will be a time when you will be so glad that you - and the one you love - were with your Dad when he passed on. And be assured, he will have known you were there with him.If you spoke to him, he would have heard what you said. You were a true and loving son for him when he most needed it. Be proud of yourself.

    Love, Sue x
