  1. Really quick intense storm in chelmsford at around 1:00am. tried to get footage but phone couldn't handle the intense frequent lighting like a strobe light, very heavy rain (no hail). Went for a walk at 10:00pm before bed with a refreshing wind blowing around (quite cooling)- but when I went into garden just after storm passed at 1:00 am there was a warm sticky wind, reminded me of a storm I was in at Malta airport back in October'95 (also at night and also with this unexpected warm sticky wind)

  2. It was always going to clear early in the SW, you may still get some wind and heavy showers though.

Still here camping in Hayle, less rain in my washing up bucket from last night than overnight rainfall last week, was a bit windy, but no damage. Should I give up looking at the weather or am right in thinking the centre of this low is further south and running along over Cornwall and south coast(explaining calmer, conditions here) ?? Edit ... just looked at Sea and it looks wild, wind picked up as well as writing. Using the following for pressure ...http://www.xcweather.co.uk/
  3. Reports on Twitter of very heavy rain and strong winds in Cornwall now.

Hi, can report still no rain or strong wind in Hayle, clouded over soon after posting this morning.Had light showers on and off, just checked radar and seem to be in that dry arc on the south east of the image. 7:04 pm - hardly any wind now and very light showers (calm before the storm) ???
  4. Wonder if some of the thunderstorms will make it up to Manchester, we'll know tomorrow! But certainly, she's looking good for convection. Hi, what you describe seems really quite eerie! You'll have to keep us updated! :)

No storms here. I Can now see 3-4 big what looks like tops of cumulonimbus a long way out to sea across the seascape. Still small cumulus approximately 2 miles at sea developing what looks like a low level/thicker cirrus type cloud around them as I write?? Directly above is virtually clear, odd bit of cloud and warm sunshine. mild pleasant breeze.
  5. It looks like Bertha is now starting to show her hand in Cornwall. The satellite is also detecting some lightning in there, so there is a bit of convection there - maybe some embedded thunderstorms?

Hi, sitting out on hayle beach, sun / part cloud & warm - strangely quite considering, bit of a breeze picking up, small cumulus coming in from the west, no sign of lighting/cumulonimbus, if anything the sky looks clear out at see. Going to check radar.
  6. Without running the risk of scare mongering, don't get too relaxed. The ECM doesn't take the track further north. The GFS mean still shows 50 to 60mph gusts around the Cornwall/Devon coasts and in to Wales. I would keep a close eye on the forecasts.

Hi, thanks - still going to keep close eye on this. But does anybody know why bbc graphics for Hayle (cornwall)Is showing heavy rain for me tonight and wind (wind peaking at 27mph at 10:00am tomorrow- Sunday morning)Is this more of Saturday night / very early Sunday morning event for the Cornish coast ? This is a pain to watch this one, So confusing.
  7. Thanks for the welcomes, yes, born in 1976 but never fortunate to experience that summer, 2003 was the best I remember.

Still here and waiting to make a decision on packing up tent.

Still a lot of uncertainty with the models. Will check again in the morning. Looks like ECM & GEM are now going for the northerly route.

Feeling a bit more relaxed about this, also wind charts do seem threatening,I seem to see them as isobars for some reason !!

Waves have picked up a lot this afternoon - something brewing I think, hopefully a nice warm wind, 30mph gusts and some nice 6 ft waves (fingers crossed) -just like August in 2011

  8. Yeah, maybe though I wasn't born then.Anyway, the WRF-NMM wind gust chart looks encouraging. Wind gusts shown here widely of 45 - 55 mph with 60 mph possible somewhere even inland.Posted Image

Sorry, First post on here despite watching for years.

But the wind chart shown is what has prompted me.

Not got great reception here as camping with wife and 3 kids on exposed coastline in sand dunes at Hayle Cornwall. Just spent first week here, and to be honest the track of this low is playing on my mind, don't think my pop up camper could take 50mph gusts ???. Is this worth packing up and ruining the family holiday or am I just panicking from reading all the worst case possibilities ? a 60% chance is not much help, when would I have a clear idea with this sort of set up and we

and the best place to look for updates?

    - Thanks in advance, (will post back when I have next got reception on mobile)
